Chapter 8: Injured

"Are you still worrying about the gunshot" Jacob asked Lori. Jacob never talks so that was knew. "It was a gunshot, probably just took down a walker" I said trying to calm her. We continued walking.

Rick's Pov:

Me, Carl, and Shane were walking through the woods for any last signs of Sophia. While we were walking carl got ahead of us. He never left our sight but he was in front of us. All of the sudden a gun was fired and Carl was on the ground. "NOO" I screamed. I ran over to my son who was shot in the side. "WHO'S THEIR STEP OUT RIGHT NOW" Shane practically screamed. "Please don't hurt me. I thought the kid was a walker" an older man said. "IF HE IS DEAD YOUR GOING TO BE DEAD DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME" Shane said pushing his gun up against the mans head. "Shane he is still breathing" I said trying to wake up Carl. "I live on a farm. The man who owns it Hershel, he can help the boy" The man said. "How far is it" Shane said looking at Carl. "Just go straight that way and you will find it." The man said. I picked up Carl and started running towards this farm. After about 10 minutes of running I can see a old looking farmhouse in the distance. I adjust the way I was holding Carl and ran faster. As I got closer and closer more people started to come out of the house. "Was he bit" I heard the older man who I was assuming was Hershel yell. "No, shot, by your man" I said panting because I was out of breath from running a little over a mile. "Otis" a country sounding woman said. I just shook my head. "Bring him in here" Hershel said. "Beth, I need you to go grab extra sheets, pillow cases, anything to help stop the bleeding. Maggie go get bandages and an IV bag. Patricia clear off the bed. Bring him in here" he said giving out orders. I was out of words. He told me that he needed room and I left the room. I looked out the window and saw Shane and Otis running towards the farm house. I walked outside to see them. "Is he alive" Otis asked looking concerned. I still couldn't make out words so I just shook my head. Shane came up and hugged me knowing the amount of emotional pain I was in. We walked back into the room where Carl was. "Can I ask what happened Otis" Hershel said. "I was in the woods and thought I saw one of the dead so I shot" Otis answered. "Lori doesn't know, my wife doesn't now, his mother needs to be here." I said trying not to break down. After about 15 minutes of me and Shane talking about who would go out to find Lori, we heard a voice. "Your wife, where is she. You both deserve to be here with the boy I can go get her" A girl that looked to be in her twenties asked. I told her the route in which they were to go back. "Thank you" I said before the girl who introduced herself as Maggie left to get my wife. "She will be back before you know it" Shane said looking around the house. I just nod. I felt so stupid. How could I let Carl get shot while I was supposed to be watching out for him. 

Kass's Pov: 

We were less then a mile out from the highway and still haven't seen any useful signs of where Sophia could be. "We have about an hour of sunlight left. We should start heading back" I said taking a drink of my now empty water bottle. "You go back if you want. We ain't tired" Jacob said. It was clear he wanted to hit me for saying something. "Nah Kass is right. If we stay out any longer we will lose the light. Come on we will pick back up tomorrow with Rick." Daryl said staring down Jacob then looking at me. We all started to head back to the direction of the highway. "AHHH" we heard. "Andrea" I tried to yell loud enough that she could hear but if their was a heard they wouldn't. We all started running and we saw some girl on a horse come riding up and save Andrea. "The hell" I heard Daryl say under his breath. "Lori. Lori Grimes.
 The girl said. "I'm Lori" Lori answered. "Come with me. Rick sent me. Their has been an accident Carl has been shot." the girl said. With out hesitation Lori got up on the horse. "Rick said you were on the highway" The girl said. "Yea" I answered. "About 2 miles East. You will see a farm house. The names Greene" She said before riding off. We all looked at each other before going back to the highway. "I heard screams are you all alright" Dale said taking a pause. "Where is Lori" he finally said. "A girl came riding up on a horse. Took her to her farm house. Apparently Rick sent the girl to find Lori and Carl has been shot" I answered sitting down against one of the cars. "Shot how" Dale said taking in all the information. "No idea. She never told us how" I said. "Well do we know where the farm is" He asked. "Yeah she gave us directions. Its about 2 miles East." Daryl said sitting his crossbow on a car hood.
