We Will Survive Together

Chapter 49: The truth finally comes out.

We were on the bus and Rosita was flirting with Abraham. They were a cute couple. I was sitting next to Beth. Maggie and Glenn were sitting next to each other and everyone else had their own seat. Rosita was going on and on about cutting Abraham's hair. "Hey maybe after this is over Rosita could give you a trim. Party's getting a little long in the back" Maggie said looking over at Eugene. "The smartest person I ever met happened to like my hair. T brooks Ellis. Said I was quote on quote a fun guy" Eugene said. Half the time I was lost trying to understand what he was saying. We continued on until we saw a few walkers in the road. We didn't think to much of it and kept driving. That was when something happened to the bus and it flipped. The windows were broken and the bus was on its side. "Eugene are you ok" Abraham said. No answer. "Eugene" Abraham said again getting up. "The preacher" Eugene muttered out. "Everyone else you alright" He said. "The engines on fire we need to get out of here" I said looking all around me. The walkers had caught up to us and were trying to get in. "Ok we fight through. Do not leave his side" Abraham said. Glenn and Abraham pushed open the back emergency exit and started to fight off walkers. We all followed and stayed close to Eugene. After all the walkers were down we sat down to rest. "Is that blood yours" Eugene asked looking at Abrahams no bleeding hand. "Yeah. Damn thing opened again" he said breathing heavily. "First aid kit is the bus. I'll see what we got" Maggie said turning around but stopping. The bus had caught fire and was being burned. "We don't stop we walk" Abraham said. "The church is only about 15 miles the opposite direction. We could go back and find another form of transportation" Eugene said. "I said we keep going we find another ride on the way" Abraham said. "Hey whatever happens we are going with you" Glenn said calming down Abraham. "Could find some bikes. They don't burn" Beth said. "Yeah that's the plan" Abraham said. We all followed him and eventually found ourselves at a book store. It was clear and we separated sections for each of us to sleep in. We made a small fire in the middle of the bookstore. It was getting late and I went to lay down. I heard someone up and walking around and knew it would be a little while before I actually fell asleep. I could here the moans coming from Abraham and Rosita and saw Eugene watching them. I went over and tapped on his shoulder and gave him a weird look. "I admit I do enjoy watching" he said. "Yeah cool but you should get some sleep" I said trying to drown out the noises coming from over the book shelf. He nodded and I turned to walk away. "I am the reason that the bus crashed" Eugene said. I turned around trying to figure out how he could blame himself for it. "It was a freak accident no one caused it" I said looking at him. "I did. I put crushed glass from the church in the gas pipe. It shouldn't have started. Wasn't supposed to turn out like that." Eugene said staying quiet. "You could have killed someone why the hell would you do something like that" I said with a concerned look on my face. "Wanted to wait for the others to come back. Figured that would by me time" he said. "Ok I'll keep your little secret but Eugene you can't ever do that again" I said. He nodded and walked away. I went back to where I was sleeping and actually fell asleep. 

I woke up the next morning when I heard Abraham walking around. I grabbed my stuff and went to where they were. "We could stay here for awhile. This place wasn't even touched" Maggie said while sitting in a chair. "No. We have been going steady since Houston and we won't stop here" Rosita said putting bandages for Abrahams hand. We agreed and got ready to go. "We should see if any on these cars will start" Glenn said. "Don't need it. Found us ride. Just so happens to have 500 gallons of water on it" Abraham said looking out the window. We all looked and saw a firetruck. However once we got there it wouldn't start. Not the first 10 tries at least. Finally Abraham got it started but it stopped pretty fast. "Damn it" Abraham yelled out. He was trying to clear out the vent for it when a tire rolled past. We all looked and then out came dozens of walkers. We took them out but there were a lot more then on the road. That was when all the sudden the water from the truck started. We all took cover not wanting to get soaked. I looked up and saw Eugene controlling it. After he took them all out we were all soaked. Abraham climbed up there to clear out the vent again. "Maybe we could stop somewhere find some dry clothes" Glenn said. "Nah you can air dry" Abraham said as he finished cleaning the vent. 

We drove for about an hour before it died again. Abraham was about to have it fixed when we smelled something awful. We walked ahead and saw a huge heard. We all stood there. "No. We aren't doing this" Glenn said turning around. Beth lightly tapped me and I turned with them. "Come one Abraham we need to go back." Rosita said. "No we can get through" Abraham said. "No I am not risking my life. My wife's. Her sister. And one of our group members girlfriend. We need to find another way" Glenn said. "We can spray them with the hose." he said. "It's empty" Rosita said. "Then we go through" he said. "Abraham" I said before he cut me off. "We can get through. I know it. And that means we ain't detouring. Going around. Or going back" he yelled out. "No. Your wrong" Rosita said. He looked at her. He walked over to Eugene and started to drag him towards the RV. We were all trying to get him to stop. Glenn pushed him and he grabbed Glenn. "I said do not touch me" He yelled out. The yelling continued until we heard Eugene yell something that would change us forever. "I'm not a scientist" He yelled. We all went silent. "I lied. I'm not a scientist. I don't know how to stop it. I'm not a scientist" he said. "You are a scientist I have seen the things you can do" Rosita said. "I just no things" he responded. "You just no things" Glenn repeated. "I know I'm smarter then most people. I knew I could lie. So I used that to survive." He said. Abraham looked pissed. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "I am smarter then you and I know that" he said. Then Abraham stood up and hit him hard. He almost immediately passed out and Abrahams hand cut opened again. "Were going back" He said getting in the truck. We put Eugene in the back and we got in. I can't believe Eugene used us like that.
