Chapter 36: How could this have happened

It was close to midnight and I was walking along the fence. Daryl was on watch at the gate so I talked to him a little bit. I was out on the walk and I saw Beth and Kaley walking towards me. "Hey" Beth said as she got within 5 feet as me. "Hey. Oh here" I said as I took the flag out of my side bag I had on. "Thanks I still don't know how I forgot about this when I left" Kaley said taking the flag. "Yep" I said as I kept walking. I found myself along the side of the fence that had been recently broke. We had put in the work and got it back up. I was still walking when two arms got wrapped around my waist. "Hey" Daryl said resting his chin on my shoulder. "Well hello their" I said turning around and wrapping my arms around his neck. "Why you over here" He said keeping his hands on my waist. "Got bored had nothing to do so went for a walk" I said smiling. "There is something called sleep ya know" He said looking slightly down at me. "Wasn't tired" I laughed. "I can make you tired" Daryl said slightly smiling. "Who is going on watch right now" I asked. "Carl why" he said still staring down at me. "That is why. Maybe next time" I laughed. "Fine. Head to bed I'll be there in a minute" Daryl said leaning forward and lightly kissing me. "Alright" I said before walking away. I finally got to my cell and took off my jacket and shoes. I laid down and fell asleep. I didn't even realize when Daryl got there.

I woke up and Daryl was still sleeping. Usually he is awake before me. I looked through the small pile of clothes I had and grabbed a white tank-top a pair of black ripped jeans my black leather jacket and my boots and got dressed. Daryl was still sleeping so I went to get something to eat. I saw Lizzie and Mika with Judith and Carl and walked over to him. "Hey how you feeling Lizzie" I said. "Better. Thank you" She said. Then their was an explosion. I turned and saw one of the guard towers had been hit. "Ok Lizzie Mika stay over their with Judith you guys have your knives right" I said looking around frantically. They nodded. "Ok go. Carl come on" I said and we ran to the fence. Daryl, Rick, Tyreese, Beth, Maggie, Kaley, Bob, Sasha and then us. Daryl held out his hand for us to stop. I looked through the fence and saw cars, trucks, and a tank. Then I saw him. The man we all thought was dead standing on the tank. I got a strange feeling and Daryl noticed. He grabbed my hand and held it tight. "I want to talk to Rick. Right now" Philip yelled out. "I don't run things anymore. We have a council now. They make the decisions." Rick yelled back. "Is Hershel on that council" he said. Then one of his men dragged Hershel out of one of the vehicles. His hands were tied and they put him on the ground in front of the tank. Maggie and Beth pressed them selves against the fence. "What about Michonne" he said and doing the same with her. We all looked at her. "Know Rick. I do not care about your council I want to talk to you. Right now" He said not moving from his spot. Rick opened the gate and walked down to where only the fence was separating the two. Daryl let go of my hand and made his way to a gun crate. He gave us each one gun and we all aimed in the direction of the Governor and his fighters. "Let them go. You want to talk I'm here but let them go" I heard Rick say. "You have until sun down to get out of here. We won't kill you but if you fight we will kill all of you" Philip said. "We can share the prison" Rick said. "That isn't going to work" Philip said again. After a while of them talking it got intense. "The shots will only bring more of them. The more the harder it is to leave" Philip said. "We fought him once. We won and afterwards we took in his old friends. They became leaders in what we have here" Rick yelled out. "You with the pig tails. Is this what you want. Is this what any of you want" Rick yelled out flailing his arms. "What we want is what you got. Time to leave asshole" a man who I didn't know yelled from in the tank. "You can live here with us. We wouldn't even have to see each other. You and your people could be in cell block A and B and we can take C and D. We wont see each other. None of our people will cross paths" Rick tried to negotiate. "Or you can blow this place up. Take down the fences but once you do that this place will be worthless." Rick said trying to talk him out of it. "We can fix the damn fences" Philip said grabbing Michonne's sword and holding it against Hershel's neck. Beth and Maggie started to freak out. Kaley came in between me and Beth and grabbed her girlfriends hand. "We can all live together. Please. We can work things out. We will never see each other it will be like nothing even happened" Rick said again. Philip slowly lifted the sword away from Hershel. He glared up at us all and looked at Rick. "Liar" He said before slashing down and hitting Hershel in the neck. I gasped and we all looked at each other. Beth and Maggie started to cry. "No" Rick yelled before he pulled out his gun and shot Philip in the arm. We all started to fire at them. "Daddy" Beth yelled out. I felt so bad. We shot and shot. After awhile I was out. "Damn" I said before the tank fired taking out a part of the prison. I saw Lizzie and Mika and they looked terrified. I started to run back. Then Daryl grabbed my arm. "Get the kids to safety. Hey if we get separated you get out. I will find you" Daryl said kissing my forehead before looking back at the tank. I nodded and ran off. I got to Lizzie and Mika. "Here" I said reaching for the hand gun crate. I gave them a quick lesson and showed them the basics. "Now listen stay behind me. You see someone you shoot. You see a walker you shoot. But do not shoot any of our own" I said. Mika looked terrified. "Mika you take Judith. You don't have to shoot" I said taking the gun. She nodded and grabbed the baby. They stayed behind me as I shot at the people. The tank was breaking threw the gate. I saw the people getting on the evacuation bus. Then I saw Maggie run back into the prison and come out with Glenn. I saw walkers coming close to Daryl. He took one out and used it as a shield. I shot one of the men trying to shoot him and Lizzie shot the other one. He threw a grenade down the tank and the man got out I saw two people closing in on Tyreese and me and Lizzie took them out. I looked back and saw Daryl and Beth running. I knew they got out. "Come on" I said running back to see if there were any other survivors. I didn't see any. We got out. We were ok but I needed to find my sister and Daryl. They got out together. I just had to find them.
