Chapter 13: The Barn

I was talking to Lori this morning. It was really early. "I took the pills but I um. I threw them up" Lori said looking at the ground. "That means you want this baby. Rick will understand and he will be the considered father of this baby" I said grabbing her hand. "Kass can I talk to Lori real quick" Rick said. He had the pill package in his hand. "Yeah sure" I said looking at her. I nodded and let her walk away. I started to walk back to my tent when I was stopped. "Why are you awake it's like 5 in the morning" Daryl said. "Why does it matter" I asked stopping in front of him. "Rick was on watch over their. I was on watch over here. Lori being pregnant early morning's is all she is gonna see. But why are you awake" Daryl said looking at me. "Couldn't sleep. Worried about Lori and Sophia and knowing what Carol is going through." I said looking around. "At least you got your biggest worry out of the way" Daryl said still looking at me. I nodded and walked back to my tent. I got in and started to cry. I don't know what caused it but it just came out. I guess my thoughts finally caught up to me. Cleo, Jacob's change, never seeing my family again, Carl being shot, Jacquie dying, Amy dying, Sophia going missing, Daryl getting hurt, Lori being pregnant, and being in a world where every decision you make could kill you. I heard someone walking by my tent and quickly tried to stop the tears. "Kass I know your crying" I heard Daryl say outside my tent. "You caught me" I said standing up. Daryl came in and looked at me. "Why" Daryl said looking at me. "I guess everything finally caught up to me" I said smiling. Daryl walked up to me and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him back. He pulled away and looked at me again. This look was different. It wasn't a look he used to give me. It wasn't the look he gave Rick or anyone else in this group. He looked at me like he wanted to kiss me. He turned around and walked out of the tent. I laid down and decided to take a small nap before I would eat breakfast.

I woke up and walked out of the tent. I had only slept about two hours but I felt a lot better than before. I sat down and was handed a plate of eggs. Glenn looked very nervous about something. He kept looking at us then back to Maggie. I got the feeling that he had something to say that was meant to be hidden. I was right. Glenn started to walk forward. "Hey guys" Glenn said. We all stopped eating and looked at him. "So... the barn is full of walkers" he said looking at the barn. We all stopped what we were doing and stared at the barn. We finished eating quickly and all walked over to the barn. "We need to take care of this now. We either need to take out all of these walkers or we need to go Rick" Shane said walking towards the door of the barn. "We can't go" Rick said looking at Shane. "And why the hell not Rick" Shane said turning to face him. "Because Sophia is still out their" Daryl said walking up. "Oh my lord. Do you all still believe that she is out their" Shane said turning back around. "Daryl came back with her doll. She is close and we are not stopping until we find her and she is still out their" I said looking at Carol . Carol nodded at me. "Jesus Christ then we need to take out every last one of those undead things" Shane said walking over to the barn. "Shane no. I am going to talk to Hershel. Figure out why their in their. Maybe it is like the well and he doesn't even know their in their" Rick said grabbing Rick's arm. "Everyone go back to the tents. Me and Shane will figure this out" Rick said turning to Shane. We all listened and walked back to the tent. 

Rick's POV: 

"Why the hell don't we just kill them now" Shane said. "Because. We don't have the ammo. I will figure this out." I said turning towards the house, "Then we need to leave" Shane said following me. "We can't" I said stopping. "Listen Rick Sophia is dead more than likely so we need to just go. " Shane said holstering his gun. "Lori is pregnant. That is why we can't go" I said walking towards the farmhouse. 

Kass's POV: 

I was sitting outside my tent. I had my knife but had nothing to do. I did realize something. I liked Daryl. The looks he was giving me makes me believe that he might like me back. I was still sitting their when I heard foot steps. I looked up to see Daryl walking up to me. "We need to talk" He said standing in front of me.

Daryl's POV: 

I don't know what it was. The feeling I was feeling was not one I was used to. And it only came out when I was around her. Do I like her. No I would look like a dick. She just lost her husband. Plus I don't feel that. Or do I. I had no idea what was going on in my brain. I then figured it out. I like Kass. "Damn it" I said quietly in my tent. I got up and grabbed my bow. I walked out of my tent and saw her sitting down. I walked over to her. Once I got to her she looked up. "We need to talk" I said looking down at her. 

Kass's POV: 

I nodded and stood up. He nodded in a direction and started to walk that way. I followed behind him. Rick had gone out with Hershel and Shane went out to look for Dale and the gun bag, Daryl turned the corner of the shed. I kept following him trying to figure out what he was going to say. It was probably something about Lori or the barn or something like that. I turned the corner but was stopped in my tracks. Never in a million years did I expect this. Daryl grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him. Then he kissed me. I didn't fight and if I was being totally honest I didn't really want to. I kissed him back not wanting it to stop. "Kass, Daryl, Glenn, Everyone get out her right now" I heard Shane yell. I pulled away and looked at Daryl. Daryl picked up his bow and we both ran to Shane. "What" Daryl said as we got their. "Rick isn't in the position to make this call. We are going to that barn and taking out every last one of those walkers in their." Shane said handing everyone a gun. "We need to wait till Rick get's back he is talking to Hershel" I said. "No his talk is going to get us all killed." Shane said loading his pistol. "Oh no" Glenn said looking at the trees. Out of the woods came Rick, Hershel, and Jimmy. Rick and Hershel were holding one walker each and leading it to the barn. "What the hell is this" Shane said as he ran to the barn. "What the hell is going on" Shane yelled. "I am dealing with it. We can talk after" Rick said. "No these ain't people their dead" Shane yelled. "They killed Amy. They killed Otis. And their gonna kill us if we don't do something" Shane screamed as he paced in front of Rick. "Shane stop" Rick yelled. "Let me ask you something Hershel. Could a living breathing person. Could they walk away from this" Shane said. He took out his gun and shot the walker three times in the chest. "How is it still coming. I shot it's lungs, it's heart" Shane said shooting the walker again. "SHANE ENOUGH" Rick yelled. "Your right Rick. That is enough" Shane said shooting the walker in the head. "ENOUGH. Ricking our lives for a little girl who is gone. ENOUGH" Shane yelled. "We are gonna end this right here. Right now" Shane yelled before going to the barn doors, He opened them and backed away. He aimed his gun. Then they started to come. Me, Daryl, Glenn, Andrea, and T-dog were all up shooting with Shane. We got to the last walker and didn't move after that. We stood their before we heard an echoed moan. We readied our guns waiting for another wave. We could see small feet walking around. Then we noticed. Not only was it another walker. It was Sophia. We lowered our guns in disbelief. I could hear Carol coming. I dropped my gun and grabbed her. We both fell to the floor. I stopped her from running up to Sophia. "Sophia" she kept crying out. I started to cry as well. Then Rick made the decision. He slowly walked up to Sophia and aimed his gun. He shot her in the head and Carol tensed up. I held on to Carol for another minute. This whole time, she was in the barn next to where we were sleeping.
