"Listen to the wind, can you hear it blowing?" Tiberius sang softly. Hearing it, Wendy whimpered quietly. She lifted her head and listened as the older hawk continued, "It roars like the grizzly, its volume ever growing. But it's also sweet and gentle, on nights the moon is glowing." At that moment, thunder roared. Shrieking, Wendy hid her face once more. Shaking, she only stopped when she heard Tiberius singing again, "Listen to the thunder, and its mighty crash. It follows after lightning, and its brilliant flash. Yet the rain keeps falling, amidst this royal clash."

By now, the storm outside was unleashing all its forces upon the land. Inside the fox burrow, Wendy whimpered softly. It seemed really scary out there right now. She was trying hard not to pay attention to it though. Instead, she focused on the song as Tiberius continued singing, "Listen to the wolf, can you hear his howl? Listen to the lynx, can you hear her yowl? It came from the mountaintops, the home of the owl." Glancing down at Wendy, he went on, "Just listen closely, little one, and you shall hear them all. They all sing to you, all creatures big and small. Just listen closely, little one, and you will hear their call."

No longer sobbing or whimpering, Wendy stared up at Tiberius with round eyes. Meeting her gaze, the older hawk sang the next verse, "You and I are connected to the forest and its art. Close your eyes and listen to its beating heart and know that we are one, even when we must part." Closing his eyes, the red tail sang, "We are one with the sky that so many do desire. We hawks soar above clouds and our talons touch sun's fire. We are warriors of the flame of the sun we all admire. We go to where we're needed, even if the situation is dire."

Her yellow eyes still wet with tears, Wendy rested her head against Tiberius's shoulder. She didn't say a word as the other hawk sang, "We are connected, you and I, to the wind and the sky. And to spirits young and old and those with hearts of gold. Even though they are gone, you shall never be alone." Looking up at him, Wendy could make out what looked like a tear in the red tail's eye. Turning his head to face the youngster, Tiberius sang softly, "Listen to my lullaby and its sweet words. This melody shall soar just like us birds. So please stop your crying and hold on tight. I shall always be with you, every day and every night."

Shivering a little, Wendy could still feel tears rolling down her face. She pressed herself against Tiberius just as he lowered his head. Draping his left wing over her, the old hawk's voice dropped to a whisper, "There's no need to tremble, like the leaves of the tree. I will protect you little one, just you wait and see. Please listen to my lullaby, please listen to my plea. Little one, you're never alone, cuz you'll always have me." Pulling Wendy close with his wing, the old red tailed hawk murmured, "I will always be here for you."

A small purr rumbling in her throat, Wendy curled up next to Tiberius. Also purring, the older hawk curled up around the younger one. The storm continued raging outside but no one was paying attention to it. With her head close to his chest, Wendy was listening quietly to Tiberius's beating heart. A smile appeared on her face as she closed her eyes. The older hawk next to her purred softly, helping her sleep.
