Sunshine brought warmth to Tiberius's face, coaxing him to open his eyes to discover that the plan had gone well. Now back in the outside world, he sighed with relief. Delighted, he soared on the wind several yards above the tallest trees in the area. He was so happy that he didn't even realize that he was still holding Wendy. That is, until she started squirming and squeaking in fear.
"Would you settle down?! I'll drop you off somewhere!" Tiberius hissed, looking down at the month old hawk he held firmly in his talons. In all honesty, he would have dropped Wendy right there and then. If by some miracle she survived the fall, she would have to extra lucky if someone found her before something else did and had her for their dinner. By the way she was acting right now, the old hawk wasn't at all surprised if he accidentally dropped Wendy.
"Can we please land?!" Wendy cried, staring at the ground far below them. Her heart was pounding like a sledgehammer in her tiny chest. She was also beginning to hyperventilate. "We are not landing this close to that place! Now shut up and let me fly! Unless you want to be learning flying lessons early," the older red tail snapped. As if to prove his point, he flew straight up. Panicking, Wendy was now thrashing around in terror, accidentally lashing out at the other hawk with her little talons. Her yellow eyes filled up with tears. Hovering in the air, her companion snarled, "What is your problem?!"
"I just want to land! Please! I'm afraid of heights!" Wendy admitted, trembling all over while she bawled her eyes out.
"WHAT?!" Tiberius practically lost his mind when he heard that. Of all the birds in the world, he was stuck with one who was terrified of heights. Before he could say anything else, a gunshot rang out.
