A Little Sane

Chapter 141

"What's wrong with your laptop and iPad at home?"

Mercedes finally turned her gaze from her office desk top to meet Oriena's gaze. She looked slightly annoyed. 

"Look, I just needed to do some stuff here on this computer."

"So you could erase the history?"

Mercedes raised her eyebrow.

"We didn't have this conversation."

Oriena sighed. She shook her head.

"So you're technically keeping secrets from Jerome your husband and you technically want me to act like I don't know about it."

Mercedes laughed slightly.

"You get married and then you can decide how to handle your marriage with what should be said and what shouldn't"

Oriena shook her head. She stood thinking for a minute. She grinned.

"How about you maybe take a break from that?"

Mercedes lifted her gaze curiously. Oriena had started to strip out of her clothes. Mercedes shook her head and chuckled.

"How about you put your clothes back on?"

Oriena continued to grin.

"Awe come on.. You look like you could use a stress reliever."

Mercedes continued to stare at the desk top. She didn't change her gaze.

"I told you I was done with that. I love my family. I love my husband. I can't keep cheating on him... and I can't keep using my mental disorder as an excuse.. Oriena I love my husband. Despite everything. I just can't okay. I need you to respect that as my friend."

Oriena looked visibly upset, but she cleared her face. 

"Um, there's actually some... stuff I could be doing down stairs. I'll go get on that.."

Mercedes smiled without looking up.

"That would be very helpful. Thank you."

Mercedes continued to scroll through the internet. She was searching for tricks to help with morning sickness and hiding pregnancy. She hated lying to everyone, but she had seen the future. She was fully confident that she was going to be fine. She was so distracted by what she was researching that she almost missed the phone call she was getting. 

"Miah! Hey!"

"Hey beautiful! I was just calling to see if we were still on for lunch. Rora has been helping me make it. She is very excited."

Mercedes smiled warmly. She thought about lunch and couldn't help the happy feeling she was getting.

"Of course we are! I didn't forget! I'll head that way in about half an hour. You tell her that I'm very excited too. What about Ecco?"

She could hear Jeremiah groan. She sighed.

"Miah.. come on.. She doesn't have to eat with us, but I was just wondering if I would see her face at all. I wouldn't mind."

"You sure?"

 "Well Mariana seems to really like her."

Jeremiah groaned again. 

"Miah that's a really good thing. I said I wanted Ecco to help and I meant it. I'm glad they get along."

"She might pop her head in today. We will see."
