A Little Sane

Chapter 3

A nurse knocked on the wall after she barely opened the door. Mercedes was sitting up better and wasn't as tired anymore.

"Come in." 

Another nurse came in behind the first one. Mercedes eyes instantly fell on a bundle in one nurse's arms. The nurse nodded. 

"Someone has been very excited to meet you momma."

Jerome stood up from the couch on the other side of the room. the nurse got close to the bed, and Mercedes stopped her. Mercedes looked at the other nurse.

"Could give me some hand sanitizer? I know it's not as good, but I'd rather have some sort of clean hands."

The nurse smiled and once Mercedes was done, the other nurse carefully placed the baby in her arms. Jerome stopped after taking a few steps. He watched Mercedes's reaction. Tears fell from her eyes. He had never seen anyone so in love. Her reaction amazed him. If was as if she had finally found the one missing piece in her life. Mercedes gently ran her fingers across her daughter's forehead. She was asleep. Mercedes looked up at Jerome and was speechless. Jerome slowly walked beside the bed. He stared at their daughter and couldn't believe she was real. Jerome took one look at his daughter and instantly understood what Mercedes felt. 

"Jerome... that's our daughter... our baby.."

Jerome leaned over and kissed Mercedes on the side of her head. 

"I'm so proud of you. She's beautiful.."

The nurse stepped forward.

"We reccomend putting the hat back on her because it's a little cold, but go ahead and take it off. Look at what we saw."

Mercedes slowly pulled the hat off and she rolled her eyes. Jerome jumped up and down and laughed.

"Of course she has your hair color.."

The nurse stepped forward.

"I assume we have a name? We need it."

Mercedes spoke without hesitation.

"Aislinn Eleina Valeska."

The nurse stopped before she wrote it down.

"That it very pretty."

"She's clever that way."

Mercedes looked at Jerome who was beyond beaming. TaTyana stood up from the couch.

"I'll go get Ed."

The nurse looked down and smiled.

"Oh look. Someone's awake!"

Jerome looked down and smiled.

"She has your bright blue eyes.."

He smiled even bigger when they looked up in his direction. 

"Would you like to hold our daughter? I'll share."

Mercedes laughed and Jerome stepped back.

"Let me wash my hands first."

Mercedes carefully handed Aislinn to Jerome and he held her close. 

"Hey there. Your name is Aislinn and I'm your daddy. Hi my sweet baby girl."

Mercedes rolled her eyes playfully and laughed. Aislinn had the biggest grin on her tiny face. 

"Great. She's already a daddy's girl."

Jerome poked her in the nose.

"You are just as beautfiul as your mommy."

Mercedes felt her heart melt when Aislinn grabbed Jerome's finger. Jerome laughed.
