Five years later

"Please restate the crimes of the accused."

Mercedes studied their faces as she set tall and proud in her makeshift court room. She watched one of her men hold a piece of paper before his eyes. A quick breath was taken before he spoke.

"Several counts of severe torture, captivity and rape."

She looked into the man's eyes for a glimpse of some sort of remorse. She found none. She cleared her throat.

"Do you deny these claims or have any evidence against them?"

The man started chuckling and he smiled.

"No. I'm guilty as charged."

He stared into Mercedes eyes. She knew that he was aware she could read his mind and she was showing him everything in his power to anger her. She closed the fist in her lap. She glared horrifically.

"Get this piece of absolute toxic waste out of my sight. Start with his feet and hands. Let him bleed out for a bit. Then, chop that son of a fucking bitch's head off!"

"You got it."

Mercedes watched the man laughing and smiling as they dragged him away. Her gaze shifted from the door for what seemed only a moment, to have it reopen. She rolled her eyes when she came in contact with who was in the room.

"Jim. Harvey. What can I do for you guys today?"

Jim took no time in getting to his point.

"Where is that man going? What are they going to do with him?"

Mercedes lifted just her eyes from the file in front of her.

"You shouldn't worry about that. He's being taken care of."

Jim sighed.

"You can't just have people killed."

Mercedes lifted her head.

"I had to send a woman to the hospital today Jim. He had her chained up naked and also by the throat. He raped her, beat her, broke one of her ribs, put out cigarettes on her and placed the side of her face on a stove eye. He starved her and then made her eat her own vomit. He's getting exactly what he deserves. Luckily, all her injuries will heal just fine. Including her face, but she will need a life time of therapy. She gets justice and closure this way."

"You do realize though... that you're technically not the police right? You're not the law."

Mercedes gave Harvey a week smile.

"I know, but I couldn't just send him to you guys. He would have gotten a better deal."

Jim stepped forward.

"You can't have people killed. You have to let the law do it's job."

Mercedes stood up and walked around them. They turned to follow her.

"Might I remind you that things in Gotham have been running a lot better with me. Are you going to arrest me? If not, I have been here all day.  I would really like to go home to my family. You know, my husband and my children?"

She stood waiting for their response. Jim sighed as he shook his head.

"No. We aren't going to arrest you. You're free to go."

"Thank you.."

Mercedes shifted her gaze to Harvey. She smile slightly.

"Always nice to see your face Harvey."
