A Little Sane

Chapter 79

"Jim! You need to see this now!"

Gordon followed his partner Bullock into an office and shut the door. 

"What's up Harvey."

Harvey pointed towards the TV in the room.

"An anonymous person dropped off a security tape of Diablo's men stealing all of Falcone's shipment and then later the video shows Falcone's men running in the warehouse. Word on the street now... Diablo Cruize is in charge of the underground. This all took place last night."

Jim looked at Harvey and tilted his head.

"That is actually big news, but why do we need to investigate it? Things just happened."

Harvey raised an eyebrow. 

"Wait until you see who was helping them."

Jim laughed.

"Penguin? He's always doing stuff for personal gain and safety."

Harvey gave him a slightly sad look and shook his head.

"Just watch the tape.."

He pressed play and Jim watched as the men parked at the scene in large vans. He was confused as five minutes went by before another small black car pulled up. He narrowed his eyes as a young woman stepped out of the car. The young woman turned towards the camera long enough to be recognized as the black car drove away. Jim turned to Harvey with a shocked expression.

"What is Mercedes doing with Diablo Cruize?!"

Harvey sighed. He shrugged.

"I heard word that her and her psychotic husband started working for him a while back, but it's mostly her who seems to be doing his jobs now-a-days. Should we head out to bring her in?"

Jim shook his head.

"Not yet. She has an angle."

"How do you know?"

Jim looked at Harvey as if Harvey lost his mind.

"Do you not remember where we live? Everyone here has an angle. There's a reason she's working for Cruize. We need to find it out before it goes too far. We can't bring her in until we have enough evidence."

Jim sighed. Harvey tilted his head.

"What's on your mind brother? Let me know so we can take down whoever we need to."

Jim shook his head.

"We should have tried harder. We should have locked her up somewhere or..  I don't know. We didn't do enough to keep her from Jerome. We even went to their wedding Harvey."

Harvey placed his hand on Jim's shoulder.

"She's in love. She would have rebelled and gone after Jerome no matter what we did. I really believe that. Those two are hard to keep apart. Even when they were separated for that little bit, they didn't hesitate to run back to each other. There's nothing anyone could have done."

Jim shook his head. He turned away from Harvey

"I just want to know how she fell so in love with Jerome Valeska.."

Harvey walked in front of him shocked.

"Are you kidding me? Jim, he's a master manipulator. He manipulated us so well into believing that he was just a sad boy who lost his mommy."

Jim gave him a confused look.

"So are you trying to say that Jerome doesn't really love her? That he just chose her for some manipulating mind fuck game?"
