A Little Sane

Chapter 156

"He should be fine. He just needs to stay here in bed for a few days."

Mercedes couldn't even look Lee in the eyes.

"Thanks Lee..."

Lee nodded. She headed towards the door and stopped.

"Everyone is still out here.. I think they want to talk to you.."

Mercedes wiped a tear that was stuck underneath her bottom lashes. She stood up with a sigh.

"I'll be right there."

Mercedes turned to Jerome as Lee left the room. He groaned in pain and looked at her with beaten eyes. She sighed as she wiped another tear and then she quickly smiled.

"I'll be back in a little bit... just get some rest okay?"

She gently leaned over him and kissed his forehead. She watched him slowly close his eyes. She took small steps towards the living room. Her anger grew as her eyes locked on TaTyana. Without thinking, she shoved her.

"TaTyana what the fuck is your issue?!"

TaTyana regained her balance and glared heavily. Jim and Harvey stood ready to break up a fight.

"My issue?! He beats the fuck out you all the time! I give him what he deserves, for you by the way, and I am the one with an issue?!"

"But your not thinking about the bigger picture! Aislinn.."

"Will find out one day and truly understand what kind of person her special, perfect fucking daddy is!"

The tension in the grew heavily as Mercedes stood angry processing her words. She finally opened her mouth to speak.

"I'm not angry at you for defending me! I don't want Aislinn to find out and look at her aunt T badly because you beat the ever loving shit out of her daddy! I don't want her scared of you! You're right! He got what he deserved and he'll be fine from his injuries! If Aislinn develops a bad viewing of you, I don't know if we will ever be able to fix it, you know how she feels about him!"

TaTyana stepped backwards in shock. Her anger slowly turned to sadness. Mercedes calmed down.

"I just.. I don't want her to think you are a bad person... when you just love me too much.. She's nine and super smart.. it's just.. her daddy is her entire world.. they do almost everything together.."

"Momma...?"

They turned to see a sleepy Aislinn and Jessie.

"What's..."

They watched Aislinn's eyes lock on Jim and Harvey. She gasped and started to panic and cry.

"The police! Are they here to take daddy away?!"

Mercedes instantly pulled Aislinn close to her and cupped her face.

"No no Aisie bear.. It's okay.. they just came to talk to mommy about some stuff.. No one is taking daddy. He's fine. He's sleeping and you're going to wake him up."

Aislinn looked at Jim unsure. Mercedes rubbed her cheeks with her thumbs.

"Baby girl. Look at me."

Aislinn gave her sad, sleepy eyes. She wiped Aislinn's tears.

"I just saved your daddy. I wouldn't let anyone take him from you okay? I promise. Daddy will be here when you wake up tomorrow."

Jessie hugged Mercedes. She smiled and kissed the top of his head.

"Hey bud.. come on. You two head back to your rooms and back to bed okay? Everything will be fine in the morning."
