A Little Sane

Chapter 148

Mercedes groaned as she shuffled awake. She gently pulled her arms closer to herself. She looked around Jeremiah's bedroom and yawned. Her gaze moved from one side of her to the other. Aislinn and Jessie were fast asleep. They had woken up not long after they went to bed wanting to sleep with her. Her eyes fell on the bathroom as the toilet flushed. Jeremiah stepped out still half asleep. He stopped slightly taken back when he saw her awake. Mercedes gave her a tired smile.

"Good morning..."

Jeremiah smiled back.

"Good morning.. Did I wake you when I came in?"

Mercedes shook her head no. She sighed.

"I didn't know you were in here until you flushed. You know I could have stayed in a guest room."

Jeremiah shook his head no back at her and gave a smile.

"My bed is one-hundred percent more comfortable. It was not a bother at all."

Mercedes laughed slightly. Jeremiah tilted his head confused.

"You know you didn't have to completely give up your bed. You wouldn't have bothered me."

Jeremiah gave her a genuinely sincere small smile. 

"No. You are in a serious situation right now. I could not bed with you. I have too much respect for you beautiful."

Mercedes smiled back. Jeremiah pointed at the sleeping twins. 

"Plus, you had some children who crawled into my bed too."

"Oh yeah.. thank you for letting them by the way. I hope it wasn't a bother having them in your bed."

Jeremiah chuckled and shook his head.

"Of course it was not a bother. They needed you last night."

They stared at each other for a few moments. All Jeremiah could think about doing was scooping Mercedes into his arms, giving her a loving kiss and hugging her pain away. Mercedes gave him a small loving smile as if she was saying she wouldn't be mad if he did. He shook the thought.

"Well, Ecco is starting breakfast. I hope the twins will be hungry." 

Mercedes nodded and brushed her hand through her hair that was pulled back into a messy, bed-head bun. 

"I will go check on that and allow you to wake them up, brush your teeth and whatever else you might need to do before breakfast."

Mercedes watched him leave and slowly climbed out of bed. She left the twins asleep while she brushed her teeth and got dressed. She couldn't bring herself to wake them up yet. She watched them still peacefully sleeping. She gently shook them awake and called to them.

"Jessie. Aisie. Time to wake up." 

The twins groaned as shuffled. Mercedes laughed. They slowly opened their eyes.

"Hey my sweet babies.. Ecco's making breakfast. Let's brush our teeth and put clothes on." 

"Mommy!" 

Mercedes laughed as she hugged Mariana tightly. The second Mercedes let go of Mariana she ran to the twins. The children happily played after breakfast while Mercedes was in Jeremiah's study. Ecco stood against the wall. 

"Do you want to tell me what you did to my brother to get away now?"

Mercedes took a deep breath.

"He charged at me.. so I shot him with a vibrational wave that knocked him off balance. I just made him dizzy... but.. he went to get back up and..."
