"How can that happen?" Toni asked, observing the syringes.
"This much is considered a refill; this much should've turned her ten times over. It has to have been altered somehow," Francis theorized.
Without warning, he decided to taste the venom and quickly spat it out in disgust.
"Did you think it was going to taste good," Antonio snapped, some of the spit having gotten onto him.
"It doesn't taste like venom at all...but it's definitely venom."
"This is serious; we need to go to the queen about this," Antonio urged, but I silenced them.
"Nein! Go to the queen? Vhatever ___ got herself into; she'll get killed for it. She's got venom inside her, so it's vampire business, and we don't know anything about it, she could be considered dangerous, or she might not be allowed to become a vampire; anything could happen. Ve need to figure this out first!"
They stared at me in surprise.
"So you really can be logical..." Francis said in awe. I slapped the back of his head and stood tall before them.
"We aren't running to someone for help. ___ is our intended, and vhis is our job. Ve take full responsibility for vhat happens to her, and ve are going to need help.
They nodded, following my lead.
We saw this as a fun little game for so long, even when we got serious about her. We thought nothing could hurt her, and if anything tried, it'd be easier than swatting away a pesky fly. But it wasn't a game at all. This was a life-threatening experiment that endangers the discovery of vampires, interferes with all our lives, threatens ___ life, and who knows who else's. Alice got involved in this too somehow, and because of that, she's dead. This sick experiment pits their own against each other, manipulates them like marionettes, and put ___ into unbearable situations, and all for what?
Are they trying to make some concoction of a creature that could defeat us vampires? Is this the sign of a war on the horizon? There hasn't been a vampire-exclusive war since the lupus war long ago in which Queen's husband died, and the effects of that war remain to this day.
How will the queen react to something like this?
Does the American government know about us? Are they already planning for countermeasures? Do they know our intentions to control them so we can stop their destruction of this planet? How much do they know about us while we don't know a thing about them? Worst of all, there are clearly vampires involved in this, traitors to the throne and our kind as a whole. Possibly a lupus wanting revenge after thousands of years, I have no way to know.
If I don't know a thing...can I really save her?
"Gil, you've got zhat look in your eye," Francis turned to me, looking pitiful, eyes full of remorse and wet as he held back tears like the rest of us.
"Vhat look."
"Zhat despaired look, zhe same one as the night she found out, you look ready to fall apart but now isn't zhe time—"
"Jou think I don't know vhat? I'm just—I can't—I can't figure vhis out!"
They looked started as I yelled in confusion.
"How does vhis happen? Vhey couldn't I sense it before? Vhere vere so many signs! She's vay too strong for a human; she instantly healed when ve made her an intended, even Alfred noticed! Ve should have seen Ludwig sooner! Ve should've taken her concerns more seriously, and vhat are ve supposed to do now? She's gone, and we don't know vhere? There are vampires involved clearly, so who do ve trust!?"
