A few days passed, and things were back to normal, or at least the amount of normal that comes with living with three vampires pining for you. Gilbert and Toni joked me about being a lab rat, and Francis wondered why it was something I tried so hard to hide, but like I told him, it was only the beginning of a bleak picture, one puzzle piece in a hundred.
"We have an association meeting tonight," Antonio informed me as we ate breakfast.
I stared at him until he continued to ask me, "would you like to come?"
"Hell. No." I said insistently, prepared for the question, and staring at him anxiously still.
"Mios Dios, Okay, Chica."
"Svear jar," Gilbert pointed to the swear jar I made for myself in an attempt to break my habit.
I glared at him, "hell isn't a curse."
"Kesesese zhe awesome me vas a preacher, I know vhis Scheisse, the vay you used it is a curse."
"You also lived in the 1100s where showing ankles was forbidden by God."
"I'm trying to help you break your cursing habit, Liebe, just visten to me."
"You just want the money."
"Who do you think I am?"
"Exactly who you are."
He grumbled and glared at me, but I relented and promised to put a dollar in later. I'm not sure the swear jar would be useful if all the money inside I'd just spend to treat myself later on, but it was worth a try.
"Even if you don't want to go ma cherie I'm not so sure leaving you on your own is a good idea either," Francis fretted as he washed out his cereal bowl.
"Why not?"
"What do you mean, why not? Every time we leave you alone, something terrible 'appens."
"Name one time."
"Okay, 'ow about when you were kidnapped, or when Kuro attacked you, or when Alfred ganged up on you in New York, or when you got stabbed in Croatia."
I paused, "I said one time."
He hung his head in defeat.
"If you're so worried, just don't go."
"We're discussing Kuro's punishment as part of zhe meeting, so I want to be zhere to make sure he suffers," he growled menacingly under his breath, brows knitted together and fangs glinting as he tried to hold himself together.
"Good. But I don't want to spend tonight listened to y'all screwing around quite literally."
"I thought you liked hearing us moan, Chica?" Antonio grinned devilishly at me, and I glared at him, trying not to blush.
"Yeah, but not the fifty or so other vampires there and all the horny humans with them."
"There are several hundred of us," he corrected.
"That is very much not the point at all," I sassed him and he finished his cereal bowl, handing it to Francis who put it in the sink but wouldn't wash it for him because Antonio needed to learn to do his dishes instead of turning Francis into the maid like he and Gilbert were getting used to.
"It's not my turn to clean the dishes," Antonio whined.
"It's been your turn for three centuries," Francis snapped, and I wondered how often they argued like an old married couple.
"It's Gilbert's turn!" He continued to insist.
"It hasn't been my turn since 1408," Gilbert denied.
