Trying to wake myself up completely I insisted on blasting music in the limo as our poor driver took us wherever we wanted to go, though walking might've been faster I wasn't in the mood for walking.
I put on a sports jersey I won at a football game a while ago, cargo pants, black shades, a gold watch, and a backwards hat. I was full tomboy mode today.
Except in the limo as I started singing along to Dua Lipa songs.
Gilbert, being the person he is decided to duet 'New Rules' with me.
"Vone: Don't pick up the phone!"
"You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone!"
"Two: Don't vet him in!"
"You'll have to kick him out again!"
"Tree: Don't be his friend!"
"You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning!"
"And if you're under him, you ain't getting over him!"
"God please make it stop," Francis moaned as we sang the chorus together.
"I got new rules, I count em'!" We shouted together.
The driver made sure the privacy window was rolled up so he didn't have to hear us.
Antonio smiled fondly watching us have fun.
"Me too," he spoke up when the song was over.
"Yeah, Toni! Francis get in on this," I cheered.
"Please don't," he mumbled but Gilbert pulled him upright, there was enough room in the limo to stand up.
In the end, Francis reluctantly obliges and we ended up screaming to the words to 'Wannabe' by spice-girls and god I wished I'd been recording that.
Other than the fact they practically danced on me a few times it was wholesome and fun.
I was finally awake enough and we stopped by the subway.
I ran down the stairs in the warm weather away from the sun to the underground rails. There were a lot of people, to say the least, and the lines were pretty long.
I had a card from the station since I came to New York several times a year.
"Vhere are ve headed anyvay?" Gilbert asked.
"I dunno I just really wanna ride the train," I hummed happily.
"Ve could get lost," he pointed out.
"Yeah but subway Santa helps so it's all good."
"I'm sorry what now?" Antonio asked.
"Oh this guy that looks and acts like Santa always seems to show up and point me in the right direction," I explained.
"Okay vhen..." Gilbert tailed off.
We managed to find a place to sit but I stood up for an older lady.
"So kind our ___ is," Antonio hummed cheerfully. I clung to his chest as he held the pole while the 'train' moved.
"We have a light-rail in Norfolk," I began, "as soon as it opened my, mom, Dad, brother and I went to ride it back and forth for fun, it was great."
"Sounds like fun," Antonio commented and I nodded.
"Yeah, and we'd ride it very Black Friday as tradition. I remember almost getting hit by it cause I wasn't looking when I crossed."
"Of course that happened to you, you're bad luck you know that," Gilbert muttered teasingly.
"Oh I know, you don't know half the stories of near-fatal encounters," I hummed energetically.
