I woke up to an outside world like a Disney movie, sunlight streaming into the room, bluebirds chirping and laughs of kids outside.
But inside was another story.
I was clinging to the bunched up covers of Gilbert's bed, as my friend, the wayward vampire had still not returned home due to his inability to handle his emotions or confront new situations dealing with his past.
I stretched, the clock in his room read 8:48 which on my terms was too damn early to get up but yesterday exhausted me, much to my embarrassment.
I squeezed my eyes shut and groaned. I rolled over in bed and tried falling back asleep. I thought I'd been lying there an hour and then I checked the clock and it had been about ten minutes. I repeated the struggle of trying to fall back asleep for a while but to no avail.
Eventually, I got up, chilly despite the sunny weather, and headed down the stairs silently.
Francis was awake but no one else was downstairs yet.
He seemed rather surprised to see me. I would've been too in his shoes.
"Mademoiselle, you're up razher early?" He commented, sounding more inquisitive to me.
I shrugged, the bags under my eyes were noticeable and I plopped into the kitchen table chair and let my head hit to table without so much as a word or attempt to get myself food.
Francis who'd been sipping some coffee, likely tainted with blood, out his mug down and gave me a curious look before getting up from his seat and searching through the kitchen cabinets.
He found a box of a German-made rip-off-brand of Cheerios and poured some in a bowl with me. I heard the glass bowl being set on the table in front of me.
Only now that I had to start doing things for the day was I finally tired.
Francis crouched next to me and rubbed my back as I nearly drifted to sleep on the table.
"Are you alright love?" He asked me and I let out a long groan.
"Take it as a no?"
I turned my head to look at him and his gentle smile and warm eyes immediately felt comforting. He leaned in to kiss my forehead and helped me to my feet. He swept me off my feet and brought me over to the couch by the stairs where Antonio slept soundly.
I wasn't sure if Francis just wanted me to see Antonio's adorable sleeping face or to sit with him but both solutions worked for me.
The couch was large enough for two laying side by side so Antonio gently set me down next to him, adjusting the blankets slightly as to not disturb Antonio and to let me slide under them.
I immediately felt a slight tug at the blankets like Antonio was fighting for them in his sleep. This man could sleep through the apocalypse. He turned over in his sleep and latched onto me like a stuffed animal.
I gave a confused glare to Francis and he shrugged and laughed quietly. He brought his pointer finger to his lips to make a shushing gesture and I rolled my eyes and snuggled into Antonio's chest.
I had managed to fall asleep because when I awoke I heard the voices of everyone in the living room. Antonio was sat up, supported by his elbow, watching tv and talking with Phillip, Michelle, and Lucille.
Francis was sitting in a chair from his study and watching tv, only slightly paying attention to it as he was mainly focused on the surrounding conversations.
Antonio noticed me stir awake and I growled sleepily earning a laugh from both him and Francis.
"I 'aven't been 'uman in a while are zhey always so sleepy?" Lucille asked teasingly.
