"The Teutonic Knights?" I asked papa and he nodded.

"Vhey're in town. I heard Vhey're young."

"Do you know if one vas albino!?" I asked frantically.

Gilbert. Was Gilbert by pure chance here?

He chuckled, "you mean your friend, vhat one you came to me vith at the shop one day? The one who's nose you broke before you left?"

Mama laughed at the recollection and I blushed and crossed my arms.

"Ja, vhat fucker," I cursed and mama snapped at me.

"Eliza, vhat isn't lady vike."

Screw ladylike.

"Vell do you know?" I asked papa again and he shrugged.

"I haven't the slightest-"

I grabbed my cloak and ran out the door.

I needed to wear my hood so Gilbert wouldn't see me like this.

If I wanted to see him again I'd have to wrap my chest and borrow clothes from someone.

Papa called after me but I was already running through the bustling market.

I got several looks, several smiles, a few waves and a few called out to me.

Of the few who called out to me was a young man who owned the largest crops in the village, he seemed to fancy me and mama encouraged me to accept courtship.

She knew I had no interest in men. She hoped I no longer had interest in women. If I was to continue to live in this world I would have to marry someone.

I didn't care if they made me happy, as long as they weren't cruel. Maybe my children would make me happy. I'm sure I wanted that though. Childbirth was risky and I wasn't dying to bring someone into the world with someone I cared nothing about.

He tried to stop me on my way and I only listened because he was very informative. Maybe he knew the Knights were in town.

"Elizabetta," he grinned. Genuinely happy to see me.

I'd been told many times I was the loveliest woman in the village. Weird considering it'd only been a few months since I began to appear as one.

"Yes, Anso?" I greeted curtly with a simple smile. God, I hate this.

He blushed.

Good grief just get this over with man.

"Eliza, my vader is friends with the Teutonic Knights, I vas vondering If you vanted to meet vhem?" That was unexpected of him to ask.

"Vhat?"

"Sorry, I know it's not something women vould like it's just...I thought it might be cool..."

"Yes," I immediately accepted and he seemed taken aback so I corrected myself and covered my mouth and accosted 'graciously'. Fuck my life, I hate manners.

He laughed and held out his hand.

Wait-Gilbert might recognize me.

Shit. I'll have to pretend I'm someone else.

"D-do you Vhy they're in town?"

He nodded.

"Some Romanian Rebels ambushed them on they're vay here."

I gasped.

He nodded, "twenty-two of vhem died."

No...
