Soonyoung pulled into a empty parking lot surrounded by lush grass. A path connected to it, leading into a small forest, lit by small red lanterns. Though the setting was strange and unfamiliar forest- usually a creepy environment- Jieun felt tranquility walking through. The dirt path was unclean and bumpy, probably not machine made. It was the result of many generations using it as a guide to a place unknown.

“Welp, this is the stop. We begin walking from here on.” Soonyoung said, climbing out of the car. He opened the back door and reached for something.

“You did bring a flashlight, right?” Jieun asked, not very willing to go into a forest without a better source of light than lanterns.

“I happen to own a phone so...” Soonyoung brought out his phone. A second later, a bright light shone onto the path forward. They began their trek, following the trail

Jieun observed the natural landscape, filled with bush and plants. There was definitely wildlife living here, as she heard the calls of animals from within the trees. Although the forest was still engulfed in darkness, small patches of light surrounded the lanterns as they hung off of trees. Jieun felt peaceful walking amongst nature, breathing in the fresh air whilst walking against the stars.

“Ah, we’re nearly here.” Soonyoung said, volume matching the quiet environment. Jieun looked towards him and then looked forwards. There seemed to be a tiny speck of light, but it was mainly covered by trees.

“Wait, what time is it?” she asked.

“11:55.” he replied after turning his phone on to check. Jieun nodded in acknowledgment, continuing to walk.

“Wait, I’ll have to put the blindfold on you.” Soonyoung mentioned. Jieun turned around to look at him and halted.

“Alright, if you say so. Just make sure I don’t walk into a tree or something.”

Soonyoung brought out a long piece of black cloth, placing it delicately over Jieun’s eyes.

“Can you see anything?” he asked, not tying it yet in case he need to make adjustments.

“Only a tiny speck of light.” she answered.

Soonyoung proceeded to knot the piece of fabric at the back together, making sure to tighten it so it wouldn’t fall off. He then placed his hands on Jieun’s shoulders, guiding her to their final destination.

“Alright, go forward.” he commanded. They walked, not speaking as they were focusing on the task at hand: make it to the location without a single accident. As they previously saw, beside the path was a moderately wide strip of land that kind of plunged down like a hill. They did not want to fall down, and weren’t planning to. Crickets filled their short-lived silence, as the creatures starting calling out to one another from all directions. Their sharp sounds soon died down, and the pair were left with nothingness once again.

Soonyoung veered Jieun to the right a few minutes later out of nowhere, almost frightening the girl. She walked in that direction for another five seconds until Soonyoung made her walk straight ahead. Suddenly, underneath the black cloth, where the small crack that could not be covered was, a bright shine blessed her eyes.

“Oh!” she exclaimed at the sudden light.

“Hehe, alright, stop.” Soonyoung giggled. What Jieun couldn’t see at the moment was about to make her day. Literally. It was nearly the start of the new day. Jieun felt very suspicious all of a sudden, lifting her leg up and trying to tap what was in front of her. Just grass. She squinted her eyes behind the blindfold, even though that helped her less. A small laugh was heard from somewhere, making Jieun twist her body towards the sound. She smiled, knowing who it belonged to.

“Hong Sooyun, I know you’re there~” she said in a singsongy voice. Another louder laughter erupted from her, as she knew she had been caught.

“Alright, you got me. Soonyoung, untie the blindfold, would ya.” she told the male, who happily obliged. Jieun finally regained her ability to see, which wasn’t much. It was literally just Soonyoung, which disappointed her a bit.

“Hi.” he said, turning her around to the proper direction she was meant to face. Jieun broke out into the biggest smile as she made eye contact with her friends.

“Wait, there’s still seventeen seconds left.” Sooyun stated, looking at the time. Jieun knew exactly what this was as soon as Sooyun mentioned the amount of time left.

“Okay. TEN. NINE. EIGHT. SEVEN. SIX. FIVE. FOUR. THREE. TWO. ONE!!” Everyone yelled. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIEUN!!!!”

Jieun was soon enveloped with hugs and cheers of happiness.
