"Would you be willing to go out with me? Like... as in, a date," he asked awkwardly. Jieun stayed silent for a few seconds, making Jun cringe on the inside. This is going to be the worst rejection ever. She doesn't like me. Still, he continued speaking. "I've kind of developed feelings for you... it's okay if you say no."

Jieun still stayed silent. She was busy freaking out over this, trying to figure out how to slowly let someone down.

It was a fact that she liked Soonyoung, like, a lot. And there was nothing she could do about it. But she felt guilty that Jun had to be squashed in the middle of that, especially because he was a great person. Her mind was at war as Jieun wanted a way that would hurt him the least, but still tell him she didn't like him the same way.

But finally, she decided to speak.

"I... Jun... I'm sorry. This is going to be so hard to hear from me but I have to be honest with you, I would feel guilty if I wasn't. I just don't like you in that way. I already like someone else, again, I'm so, so sorry Jun. We could still be friends?" but the more she thought about it, the less likely she would expect Jun to actually agree to be friends. Jun wasn't very keen. His feelings were messed up and he didn't know what to say to that. But he had to say something.

"No... it's okay. I knew you would say that, of course, there's someone else." Jun said. He felt sad and humiliated after getting rejected although he knew that this was the nicest way Jieun could've done so. There was just no way to avoid getting his feelings hurt.

The air was awkward, as Jieun looked away, refusing to make eye contact with the one she rejected. Jun was the same, he couldn't look at her.

"I... I think I'll go now..." Jieun said, clearing her throat and standing up. Jun nodded, still looking away in embarrassment.

"Yeah. Bye," he said with a feeling of regret.

"Bye..."

And like that, Jieun left for the last time.

[Back at home]

With a large groan, she rolled over in her bed and covered her face with her hands. It was too awkward back there for Jieun's liking. She wished there was a better way to end that friendship, but there were none.
