I sat quietly in my classroom and Jay sat down beside me. I hid my smile and looked at them. "Good morning Miya." They said sweetly and I still heard the slight rasp in their voice. "Are you feeling better?" I asked and avoided looking at them.

"Yeah, you should come over after school today, I'm not grounded anymore." Jay smiled and I nodded shyly. "I'll be there." I nibbled at the inside of my mouth and anxiously awaited for school to end.

I walked to jays house with them and looked nervously in their direction. "So Miya, I tried playing that game you told me about last night, and I still don't understand..." they rambled on and on about things, and I payed attention to every second of it, amused by their enthusiasm.

I took my hand out of my pocket and glanced at Jays hand, just mere inches away from mine. I looked up at them and nodded along, slowly moving my hand closer. They took their hand up and it hit my hand on the way up. "Oh sorry man." Jay smiled and scratched next to their nose before setting their hand back down.

I blushed like crazy and looked the other way. "Miya? Are you feeling alright? You look really pale." I nodded and rubbed my eye. "I'm fine." Jay smiled and continued talking. They sure do love to talk, about random things, and I love it. I love every second of it. We got close to jays house and I finally just bumped our palms together.

They stopped talking and looked between me and our hands. Jay had that sweet smile they always had and moved their fingers inbetween mine. "So, do you think you can help me? Ya know, understand how to get to the final stage." I smiled from ear to ear, probably the happiest I've been in awhile. "Yeah, I can help you."

We got to their house and I went up to jays room with them. I sat down on the rug and jay laid down on their stomach before pulling their phone out. "Okay I've gotten this far, but what am I supposed to do after?" Jay got really close and I leaned against them a bit, pointed at the screen. "See that cave over there, go in there and defeat five monsters. Then after you have to go back into town and get an upgraded shield." Jay nodded and smiled softly. "Thanks Miya." They put an arm around me and I obediently leaned against them.

Jay lifted the phone slightly and I watched them play, their soft arm still against my skin. The door cracked open and I glanced to the side, pushing jays arm off. Their mom stood in the door way and picked some of jays clothes off the ground. "Clean up before you invite friends over." "Mom, Miya doesn't care, just leave us alone." Jay pushed her out and shut the door behind them.

They came back over and picked the phone back up. "So Miya, why can't I ever go to your house?" I shrugged and played with the elastic in my socks. "I don't know, my parents are kind of strict, I just- I don't think they would Uh." I choked up, scared to hurt jays feelings and the rubbed my neck.

They looked up and smiled. "What? I'm sure they aren't that bad." I laughed awkwardly and looked back at them. "They not that supportive of Uh, people...like us." I said quickly and jays mouth opened slightly. "Ohh well that's okay, are you non binary too? I didn't know that."

They still managed to keep a smile on their face and I shook my head. "No uh actually I'm...pan." I whispered and jay looked at me with a soft look. "I'm proud of you." Jay held my hand and I looked in their eyes. "Youre the first person I've told." Jay smiled and made me feel so comfortable. "So got your eyes on anyone?" They bumped my side and laughed lightly.

"Yeah." I mumbled subconsciously, unaware at the time that they would ask me who. Jay sat up and set their hands on my legs. "Who is it? We should help each other out. Ya know, I'm pretty interested in someone, myself." I smiled softly and looked at their hands on my legs. "Youre going to hate me."

I slapped my face and shook my head lightly. "What Is it my sister or something?" I sighed and shook my head. "Just tell me Miya, it can't be that bad." I looked at them and put my hands ontop of theirs. "What if I'm not ready yet? What if they don't like me back? What if you think of me as just a friend?" Their eyes shot open and jays mouth opened slightly. "You like me?" I nodded and rubbed my eye.

It was itchy, not because I was crying, definitely not. Jay hugged me and I fell back on the floor. I hugged them back and pressed my face into jays shoulder. They took my school hate off and set a hand in my hair. "I think you're kind of cute." Jay whispered and my whole body warmed up. "God would you just shut up already." I muffled and they laughed a bit before I joined.

We both chuckled for a few moments before I pulled out of the hug. "Will you be my partner?" I asked and put my hand out a bit. Jay set their hand in mine. "Only if you'll be mine." I blushed like crazy and covered my face. "I hate you so much."
