I sat in the room, surrounded by mine and rekis classmates. They were all drinking and Ive had a drink in my hand since I got here, but I have yet to take a sip. I scooted closer to reki and he smiled. "Hey, dude, we're about to play further or dare, why don't you join?" I sat down next to him and they started playing, everyone asking stupid things about crush's and boyfriends and girlfriends.
Well it all seemed kind of stupid until they asked reki a question. "Are you really gay?" A boy asked diagonal from us and I kept a straight face but inside my heart started beating fast. I looked at him and he leaned back on his hands. "Uh, sometimes." He said and some people laughed under their breath.
A few people seemed confused and I think he picked up on it. He smiled, so charmingly and made eye contact with someone across the circle. "I swing both ways." He simply said and it quickly moved on to the next person. I sat there quietly, tapping the side of my full cup. "Hmmm, Langa, truth or dare?" A girl asked and I rubbed my neck, looking up but not making eye contact.
"Uh dare." I tried my best to put on a smile and she glanced around. "Kiss Reki." Me and reki looked at each other and he moved closer, touching my hand lightly behind my back. "It's fine, it'll be quick, aren't you a little drunk anyways?" He leaned forward and placed a quick kiss at he corner of my mouth.
My whole world turned upside down and I rushed out of the room, struggling to find my breath. I shut the bathroom door and sat down, placing my head between my knees. Breathe Langa, breathe. My stomach twisted and I felt excited and panicky and nauseous all at once. "Langa?" I heard reki outside the door and I hesitated to open the door.
I unlocked it and he slowly cracked it open. "You alright, man? You looked like you were gonna pass out in there." I nodded and stared at his legs. "Hey, y'know that kiss didn't mean anything, right? Sorry if it made you uncomfortable or anything." He sat down beside me and made small talk with me, obviously trying to take my mine off of things.
I stared at his mouth and rubbed my cheek. "And then, it was crazy man. My sisters like completely flipped the couch over. Oh man, I thought we were so dead." He laughed softly and I leaned over, grabbing his collar. He looked at me for a second and I glanced down at his lips, kissing him shakily.
My hands trembled and he finally grabbed the side of my face pulling me closer. I bumped into the wall and he kissed me slowly, the kiss deepening the longer we held onto each other. My hand started shaky against his back and he touched my arm, taking my hand in his.
I was shaking so badly and he stopped, looking at me. "Hey, are you okay, man?" I shook my head and he wiped his mouth slightly. "Do you need water or something, you're shaking so bad, maybe some food, do you want to get something to eat?" I cupped my hands together and scooted back a little. "No, no. I'm fine. Sorry. Can you just- maybe just, uh, take me home? I don't feel great." He nodded and smiled.
"Yeah, sure man. Are you sure you don't want anything? I can stop and pick up some food for you." He stood up and helped me up. I nodded and followed him out of the bathroom. We walked down the quiet street and I stared at his hand, moving back and forth as he walked. "Reki, I wasn't drunk." I mumbled and he looked at me. "What?"
I played with my hands and avoided looking at him. "You said it was just because I was a little drunk but I never drank any beer tonight." He nodded and put his hands in his pocket. "Yeah, I wasn't either." He said and I blushed a little, a small smile on my face.
We got to my apartment building and he called the elevator for me. I stepped inside and he caught the door. "Oh uh, Langa. Eat something, alright? And uh, call me, okay? I want to talk to you." I nodded and he let the elevator up. I walked quietly into our apartment and my mom looked at me from the couch. "Hey honey, how was reki?"
I smiled to myself. "He's good." I made myself a sandwich and ate it slowly, listening to reki. I finally got up from the kitchen table and walked past the living room, to my bedroom. "Did you two do anything fun tonight?" I shrugged but inside I had little fireworks going off inside. "Hey mom, how do you tell someone how you feel?" She smiled and looked overjoyed that I was opening up to her.
She gasped and I was overwhelmed with the mood changes. "What?" I muttered and she had a giddy smile. "Who is it? Ryuji? Kai? Oh oh, is it yui?" I covered my face and blushed a bit. "No, no, it's not. Nevermind, I'll figure it out?" I opened my door and she called out my name. "Honey, you know I love you, right? I think rekis a sweet boy." I blushed like crazy and slammed the door, falling on my bed. I looked at my phone as the screen lit up.
Reki: hey, did you get up alright?
And eat?
I stared at the screen and I retyped a few sentences over and over.
Reki: I miss you
That message popped up and I swear I forgot how to breathe for a second. I stared at my phone and it went dark. I quickly opened the texts and reread them a million times before calling him. I laid out and smiled, giddily, at the ceiling. "Yeah, I got home safe." I said and I could here his smile through the phone. "Good, I uh. Hey Langa, were friend. Friend tell each other stuff right?"
I nodded to myself and then realized he couldn't see me. "Yeah." I said and rolled onto my stomach, biting my nails on my left hand. "This is so stupid and I can't believe I'm actually asking you this, but I was wondering if you'd like to get lunch with me after school sometime, or just do something cool?" I smiled. "Yeah, but don't we always eat after school."
He laughed to fill the awkward silence and then it grew eerily silent again. "Yeah, well, I meant like on a date." My eyes went wide and my heart fluttered a bit. "Then yeah, I really want to go. Well- well, wait. Not really, I mean that sounds nice, it sounds fun. I think it'll be fun." He chuckled and breathed in.
" Then, I'll see you tomorrow after school?" I wiped the smile off my face just for it to resurface a few minutes later. "Uh, yeah." I kicked around and celebrated silently. "Then it's a date." It was quiet for a second and then he hung up.
I threw my phone down and screamed into my pillow like a 12 year old girl getting asked out for the first time, and I mean, while half off it's true, it still doesn't make up for how stupid im acting over a boy.
