I sat in Kaoru room with him and he sat up, setting his phone down. "Are you down texting your boyfriend?" I asked and Kaoru puffed his cheeks up a bit, his hair falling in his eyes. "He's not my boyfriend." He mumbled and pushed on my stomach. "I don't think you're very funny." He said under his breath and I smiled at him, rubbing the back of my head. "Why? Do you think he'd date me?" I laughed softly and Kaoru covered his face. "I hate you! Why are you so mean?" He hit me jokingly and fell on his side next to me.
I rubbed my arm and smiled at him. "I'm not being mean. I just- can't picture anyone wanting to date you." I said and he pouted softly. I watched him and slowly put my arm around him, rubbing this back. "You know I'm just messing with you." I took my hand off of his back and turned on my side to look at him. He looked up at me and sighed softly. "I like him. But I don't think he's- he's probably straight. So it's pointless." He whispered and I looked at him for a moment before shutting my eyes, my chest suddenly very tense. "Forget him then. It's not work getting your heart broken over. Besides, you've got me. What else could you possibly need?" I opened my eyes and glanced towards him.
He smiled at me ever so slightly and shook his head softly. "Youre such an idiot, you know that?" I smiled and looked away from him. "Yeah, you make a point to remind me everyday." He nudged my arm slightly and I picked at my nails. "I just- I guess it's be nice to have a romantic relationship for once. I've really- well like we're strictly platonic. I can hardly think of dating you- but I just want to experience a relationship." The room for quiet and he sat up, leaning against the bed. "Do you ever wish you that too? To ya know- date someone." I smiled and glanced up at the fan above us. "Yeah sure- I guess- who hasn't. But ive dated tons of girls. I think I've experienced enough." He looked at me and rubbed his face. "Yeah that was dumb. I don't know why I even asked you that."
A few years later (college)
I sat in the living room. A girl on each arm. I reached forward for my drink but the one girl stopped me, holding onto my arm and leaning to my ear. She left a drunken, slurred message by my ear that I didn't quite make out. "I'm gonna head to the bathroom." I said and scooted away. I walked around and grabbed a new drink, heading down a hallway. I saw a door leading to a balcony and happily headed that direction. I stepped outside and quietly shut the door behind me, leaning on the railing. I lifted my drink and took a sip, looking at the buildings that weren't too far.
"Kojiro?" A very familiar voice said and I turned around with a smile, looking at Kaoru. "Yeah?" I asked and set my drink on the small table. He slowly stepped outside and leaned against the door, his eyes full of tears. I watched him and he rubbed his red, puffy face. "You okay, man?" I asked and put my hands on the railing behind me. "Uh yeah, I'm fine." He said and I looked away. He sat down in the plastic chair and wiped his eyes again, letting out a breath. "Arent you supposed to be entertaining your little posse?" He questioned and I couldn't help but to laugh a little. "Supposedly, but I just can't stand them. They have no boundaries." I said quietly and he smiled at me, wiping under his eyes.
It got quiet for a bit and I watched him. "What happened to you?" He looked away from me and shrugged. "My uh- well we were dating really I guess- but I-" he took a deep breath and looked at me. "You were right. When you said that I shouldn't waste my time when I'm just going to get my heart broken." He smiled weakly and I pulled the other chair up next to him, our knees bumping slightly. "Do I need to go beat someone up?" I joked and placed a comforting hand on his leg. He smiled and shook his head. "No, it's fine." He looked at me and slowly placed his head on my shoulder. "Can I tell you something?" I asked and he nodded softly. I looked up at the clear night sky and pushed my hair back slightly. "I like girls. We established that." Kaoru laughed and agreed with me. "Yeah and I still like girls but I think- I like some boys too. Or Atleast one." I spoke quietly and he lifted his head up. "Really?" I nodded slightly and he smiled. "That's cool. But I'll be honest with you. They're all douche bags. Maybe you should stick to girls for now." He joked and I put a hand on the back of his head, hugging him. We stayed on the balcony for a while, just taking and hanging out.
