I sat in the hospital with Kaoru and leaned over the side of the bed. Sleep was starting to seem so tempting. I rubbed his hand gently and listened to the constant, stable beeping from the machine. I glanced up and the room seemed darker than before.

I brushed Kaoru hair out of his face and loosely tied it to the side. I leaned down and kissed his forehead. "I love you." I said under my breath and I was sort of hoping he'd open his eyes and say it back but he sat there, still as ever, with his chest only rising after a moment to breath. I stood up and walked over to the bench under the window and laid down, watching his chest rise for what felt like hours.

I woke up the next morning with a few nurses in the room. I glanced around and one of them looked at me, smiling in a pitiful way. "Nanjo? Nanjo kojiro. Right?" I nodded and rubbed my eyes, sitting up. "Your...friend here is doing good. You don't need to stay." I peeked at Kaoru through the ladies and my chest tightened. "I'll stay. I want to stay." I laid back down and waited for them to leave.

I walked over and touched his hand. Kaoru slowly opened his eyes and looked at me. "You gorilla." He said in a raspy voice and I smiled softly. He scratched his face and smiled back. I held his hand softly and sat down in the chair. He looked at me with squinted, tired eyes and I squeezed his hand. "So we agree, right?" "About what?" Kaoru said with a soft smile. "That we're cutting Adam out of our life?"

He nodded slowly and took his hand out of mine. "Just because I'm weak doesn't mean you can take advantage of me. I'm not that easy Kojiro." I leaned on my hand and watched him carefully. "Oh, do I know." Kaoru laughed softly and then coughed into his hand.

He looked away from me and I played with his hand. "I won you over a long time ago, you just won't admit it." I said softly and he coughed again into his hand, a thicker cough, as if it came from his chest. "Yeah yeah, whatever. Take your few wins and leave." I stared at him and he looked back at me. "I actually should go check on the restaurant, I'll be back around noon."

He nodded and I stood up, deciding whether or not I'll regret what I'm about to do. I took a breath and leaned down, kissing him gently. "Don't die while I'm gone." He smiled shyly and the machine beeped quickly.

I blushed and looked in his eyes. "One more for good measures." I pressed my lips to his and he touched the side of my face. I smiled against his mouth and kissed him again. "You smell, go home and take a shower."

He said and I bit back a smile. "Okay okay, whatever. I'm going." I looked back at him and he had his hand over his face, covering a very apparent blush. "Hey, don't alert the doctors with that heart rate." I teased and grabbed my jacket.

"Get out." He mumbled and I blew him a kiss. He covered his face and i smiled. "I finally got you, it only took...7 years." I cheered silently and he ignored me. "Kojiro, get out." He said sternly and I hurried out of the room.
