Me and Langa sat in his room, watching videos and I glanced over at him. "Man, I'm hungry, what's your mom making for dinner?" I asked and he shrugged, pausing the video. "I'm not sure." He set his phone down and I laid down, smushing my face against the bed. "I'm bored." I mumbled and he looked down at me.
He laid his head down too and watched me carefully. "Reki, I-" He stopped talking as the door opened and I lifted my head, seeing his mom with a messy apron. "Dinners ready." She smiled and I jumped out of bed, forgetting Langa completely, but not letting the thought of was he might've said, disappear.
We ate dinner quickly and Langa and I ended up on the couch, watching a movie, one of his favorites from Canada. I stared at the subtitles the whole time, barely focusing on what was actually happening on the screen. Langas hand moved closer to mine and I glanced down at it quickly before shooting my eyes back up the screen, scared I might miss an important plot point.
Our fingers bumped and I looked over at him. He blushed and moved his hand away. My eyes got stuck on his and I wanted to stay something but nothing was coming out of my mouth. "Isn't the main character that funny guy you've shown me before?" I said, changing the awkward atmosphere and he nodded, covering his mouth with his palm. "Adam Sandler." He said in a muffled voice and I nodded, smiling.
"What's this movie about?" Langa looked over at me. "They go on vacation and get in stupid situations, it's not that funny and it's like the rest of them." My eyes widened and glanced back at the screen. "There's multiple?" He nodded, slowly and focused on the screen, and obviously upset about something. He put his hands in his lap and stayed quiet until the movie ended.
I tapped his arm when it ended and he woke up slowly, his eyes squinting at the light emitting from the tv. "We should go to your room." I said and he got up carefully, following to his room. I shut the door and crawled into his bed. "You're acting weird tonight, man. If you're not up to it, I can go home."
I got under the covers and watched him rummage through his drawers. "No, no, you're fine, I want you to stay. Well I mean you can leave- if you want to- I'm not forcing you to stay or anything. It's not like I don't want you to leave- I like you here- I mean. Ah, no. I like when you come over." He stopped stuttering and pressed his hands to the sides of his head.
I chuckled at him and pressed his blanket to my face, breathing in. "Youre funny, Langa." I said and turned away from him, facing the wall. "Night, man." I said and fell asleep quickly.
I woke up the next morning and turned over, expecting to roll onto a very bony Langa but the bed was cold. I glanced around and saw him curled up in a blanket on the floor. I stumble dot my feet and sat down beside him, poking his side. He scrunched up and had a pained look on his face. "Stop." He grumbled and I squeezed his cheek, his mouth making a funny suction noise.
"Hey, wake up, lazy bones." I teased and he curled into his blanket. "Let me sleep Reki." He said in my name in a weird tone and I sat back for a moment before pushing him onto his stomach. "Why didn't you sleep up there?" I asked, pointing to the bed and he blinked at me. "Because you were ." I rolled my eyes and curled up beside him, "yeah, like we haven't sleep in the same bed before, get over it man, are you like gay or something?"
I laughed and he glared at me. I realized my wording and covered my face. "Sorry." I muttered and peeked at him. "In pride month too. Is this considered a hate crime?" He said sarcastically and we both laughed softly. He zoned off and I stared at him, my heart beating faster than normal.
I reached out and touched his hair. A strand fell in his face and he looked back at me and I gently pushed his hair behind him ear. I moved closer to him and he let out a shaky breath. The door clicked open and I moved back, looking at his mom. "Morning you two! Do you guys want breakfast? I made pancakes."
She smiled and I sat up slowly. "Actually, my mom wants me home, so I should probably get going. Thank you for letting me stay over." I said to him mom and grabbed all my things, rushing out.
I got home and fell on my bed, rethinking everything. That was weird. Langa looked so much prettier then than before and he looked happy. It...ugh- it made me feel weird.
I woke up to tapping on my window and slowly opened my eyes. The window slid open and Langa peered in. "Reki." He said and sounded a little out of breath. I rubbed my eyes and smiled. "Hey man." He climbed into my room and pulled his shoes off quickly. "Reki." He said my name again and I curled up in my blanket. "Yeah? Are you alright?"
He tripped as he walked over to my bed and caught himself. "Yeah yeah, I'm fine. I just uh- yeah um." I tilted my head and rubbed my cheek. "Uh, do you need to tell me something?" He sat down on the edge of my bed and seemed flustered and very fidgety. "Can I- just uh- can I show you?" I smiled and nodded.
He hesitated and then flashed a quick smile, a nervous smile but a smile non the less. He moved closer to me and touched the side of my face. "Langa?" I questioned and it felt hard to breathe. He pulled my closer and looked in my eyes for a split second. I realized what was happening and gasped. I grabbed the sides of his face and kissed him firmly.
My heart fluttered and I pushed him back on the bed, leaning into the kiss. He slipped his fingers into my hair and made a soft, muffled noise into my mouth. I tensed up and my mind went a million miles an hour. My door opened and I shot up, seeing my little sister. "get out." I threatened quietly, not to draw attention to my mom.
Langa covered his face and turned away. I wiped my mouth and my little sister giggled, running into my closet and stealing something. I crawled over Langa and ran after her. "Stop it!" I grabbed her and took my headband back. I locked my door and me and Langa looked eyes. He buried his face on the blanket and blushed like crazy.
I smiled at him and clutched the headband tight in my hands. "Do you want to- I don't know, maybe go get dinner with me? Like normal, but like not- yknow. We can go uh-" "on a date?" Langa interrupted me and I froze before nodding. "Yeah yeah. A date." He smiled and balled the blanket up, resting his head on it.
"Do you want to be my boyfriend?" He said quietly and I nodded without hesitation. "Thank you for being my gay awakening." I joked and he laughed softly. "Are we going to be all awkward around each other now?" I asked and he nodded quickly. "Yeah, definitely."
