Sora kicked off the tan bark, throwing his legs out on the swing.

Holding onto the metal chains, he swung back and forth.

He hummed as he did, going back and forth.

The sun was setting behind the buildings, casting a red light over the ground and atmosphere.

It reminded Sora of his conversation with Kairi from only a few minutes ago.

Kairi came to sit down with Sora on the docks.

"Riku has changed." She mumbled.

"What do you mean?" Sora pondered.

"Well.."

Kairi went quiet, silently watching the water.

"You okay?"

Kairi waited a moment before answering. She turned to him and said, "Sora, let's take the raft and go! Just the two of us!"

Sora shook his head in surprise. Flustered, he said, "huh?"

Kairi giggled. "Just kidding."

Still unable to calm his heart, Sora mumbled, "what's gotten into you? You're the one that's changed, Kairi."

"Maybe." She said under her breath.

"You know, I was a little afraid at first." She said. "But, now I'm ready. No matter where I go, or, what I see, I know I can always come back here. Right?"

Sora gave his signature smile. "Yeah, of course!"

"That's good." She was silent before she said, "Sora, don't ever change."

"Huh?" He asked again.

Kairi stood up, linking her hands behind her back. "I just can't wait, once we set sail. It'll be great.."

A voice knocked Sora out of his trance.

"Sora, it's time!"

Sora let his swing slow down before jumping off.

His mother turned around and began to leave, which made Sora run to catch up to her.

"Dinner will have to be late tonight." His mom sighed.

"That's alright." Sora replied.

"Yes, but it will take longer to prepare."

Eventually, they reached home.

"I'll be up in my room, 'kay?"

His mother nodded and smiled.

Sora quickly headed upstairs, and laid down on his bed.

He looked around his room, which had a somewhat cold atmosphere.

His gaze landed on the boat near the roof.

Kairi's words floated into his mind with ease, making him relax.

Sora stared out his window at the island.

Tomorrow, they were setting sail for other worlds.

Sora saw a lightning bolt flash, and his thoughts immediately turned to the raft.

What if it had gotten destroyed?

Sora was about to head downstairs, but then realized he'd probably get told that it was too late to go out to the  islands.

He sucked in a breath, and opened his window. He didn't love the idea of sneaking out, but if he didn't go check on the raft, their plans might be ruined.

As he jumped down, he heard, "Sora! Dinners ready, come on down!" And then a few second later, "Sora?"

Sora then took off for the beach, letting his legs guide him.

He tripped, falling onto grass and groaned into the night.

He picked himself up and kept running, despite the pain in his ankle.

I'm gonna be in so much trouble when I get back!

Once he reached the beach, he pushed his boat into the water and started rowing.

Sora began to remember when he'd sat on the paopu tree with Riku and Kairi.

Afterwards, Riku had handed him a paopu, saying that Sora had always wanted to try one, and that it was best to try one before they left.

Sora felt his face flush as he thought of Riku's teasing. He shook it off and kept rowing.

He also remembered when him and Kairi had talked a few hours ago. Quite peaceful.

He eventually reached the dock, and was shocked to see both Riku and Kairi's boats.

Sora stepped off the dock, and saw shadow-bugs appear in front of him.

He grabbed his sword off his back and attempted to attack them, but his sword just phased through them.

Sora took off running towards the shack and sat down to catch his breath.

He went up, and across the bridge to find Riku.

"Riku!" Sora ran to his friend with a huge smile. "There were these things that were following me, and they scared me, Riku, have you seen Kairi?"

"Kairi's fine. She's coming with us. The door has opened, now we can go to the outside world." Riku said ominously.

"What? I haven't seen Kairi anywhere, what do you-" Sora stopped as Riku held out his hand.

Sora tried desperately to reach Riku's hand as dark tendrils wrapped themselves around him.

A bright light flashed, and Sora found himself still on Destiny Islands, but Riku was nowhere to be seen.

It was only then that he noticed the door.

There was a door in front of the Secret Place entrance.

Sora sprinted across the bridge and headed towards the mysterious door, went inside, only to find Kairi standing there.

"Sora..." she mumbled. The door that was always there, with no handles opened, emitting a dark smoke.

Kairi then flew towards Sora, and their bodies crashed into one another, so they flew out together.

They landed on what remained of the outside, and Sora saw a huge creature.

"Kairi.. we have to hide." He whispered, tugging on her arm.

"No. Go hide, I'll take care of this." Kairi threw her hand down, and a key-sword appeared.

Sora was about to object, when he saw the determination shining in Kairi's eyes. "Okay." He stood up and ran to a piece of wood that was quite far away from the creature, and waited until the noise died down.

Eventually, he heard, "Sora. Sora, it's okay. It's gone now."

Sora looked up and took Kairi's hand the moment that they got tossed into the sky.

And then,

Everything went dark.
