Day 276Roxas climbed out of bed, staring at the moon of Kingdom Hearts outside his window with a huff. He wasn't tired. If anything, he was the exact opposite from it. All his thoughts were on the same thing as before. But hey, at least Ikrux wasn't with him, so he was free to think or say what he wanted without worry.
A sudden thought popped up in his mind, making him smile up at the dark sky. Twilight Town. It was his favorite place to go. Well, it was better than sitting and staying up all night. Plus, some fresh air and a new perspective would do him good.
Roxas, who had been leaning against his windowsill since getting up out of bed for the fifth time, stood up fully and stretched his arms up. It felt nice. After relaxing again, he opened a Corridor of Darkness, and walked though it to Twilight Town. Well, he had to admit, being a nobody had some perks. Getting to worlds was quicker than using a Gummi Ship, that was for sure.
The way the moonlight hit the rooftops of the buildings made it look mysterious, but the place has a sense of home to Roxas. And a sense of comfort, making him smile.
"The town has never looked more pretty." Roxas whispered to the wind. He smiled more at his own words, looking up at a sign. From what he could make out, he was apparently standing in Station Heights. The wind rushed past him, whistling and speaking inaudible words that were too low to hear anyway.
"I agree."
Roxas jumped and turned around, throwing his hand down on instinct, his keyblade materialized in his hand. It could've been the wind playing a trick on him, but he doubted that it was just that.
"Whoa!" A person stepped out of the shadows, and only after a few seconds did Roxas realize it was Ikrux. Ikrux was laughing, but once it died down, walked over to Roxas. "It's only me."
"Sorry." Roxas made his Kingdom Key disappear, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.
"It's okay." Ikrux finished his words off with a giggle, lacing his hands together behind his back. Roxas hated how much the stance and overall attitude reminded him of Kairi. But, luckily, Ikrux asked a question that made it vanish. "Wanna... go to the tower?"
Roxas nodded. Anything to rid the thoughts of Kairi and his old self. Ikrux's eyes sparkled, and he took off, running. Roxas rolled his eyes and took off in pursuit of his friend. The two friends raced through Station Heights, and up the tower. Roxas was the first to sit down, and Ikrux sat on his left, as usual. When they were finally comfortable in their spots, they started conversing.
"The stars are so pretty." Ikrux said with awe.
Roxas stared up at the stars in the nighttime sky, wanting to reach out and touch them. Was this what Riku had felt like, before that night of disaster?
"Pretty weird to think how all those stars are other worlds, huh?" Ikrux asked.
Roxas nodded in agreement, sighing dreamily. "And to think, every day we go into those worlds, amongst the stars."
A thought formed in his mind, and it made him glow with happiness. Him and Ikrux bouncing and playing among the stars, without a single care in the world. Just the two of them, alone up there in the vast, wide open sky. Again, he sighed dreamily. The thought was wonderful.
That feeling came back again. But he had to say it. Something. He couldn't handle it. He took a deep breath and looked at Ikrux. "Hey, I just wanted to say, I-"
And then, he felt a pretty strong urge. He studied Ikrux's eyes more, to find the same look from earlier back, sparkling in the moonlight.
Roxas held back from moving as the urge strengthened, and for a moment, they just stared at one another. Roxas swallowed hard. This time, the urge was just strengthening the more he looked at his friend, but he couldn't look away, even if he wanted to.
