Authors note: Hey lovers! Sorry for the somewhat late update. I wanted to put it out yesterday morning but, I bit off more then I could chew. Thank you for the patience. I just started another job so I'm trying to figure out when I can write. 🙃

Levi POV

I squeezed my eyes shut as I composed myself, bringing the tweezers up to my head. These stitches needed to come out, I was sealed up. They were just causing more discomfort then anything.

I grabbed ahold of the small piece of wire and pulled it out. I grunted a little at the sudden pain. But it was only momentary, vanished before I could complain.

After pulling all the stitches, I cupped my hands under the sink. Filling my hands up with water to splash in my face.

I took a few deep breaths in, keeping my eyes shut before looking up at myself in the mirror.

A broken man.

I hated what I saw. I hated that I didn't know myself, who I was. Where I've been.

Who was I?

I was a empty fucking shell, just waisting away.

And that woman, the way she looked at me. The way she ran to me, clinging to me. The pain and despair in her eyes when I came back outside with my bag. She was pregnant, said her husband passed away in the war.

But I couldn't shake this feeling, when I looked at her I felt like I knew her. She looked like she knew me.

It seemed like I almost offended her when I said that about intruding, I'd have to apologize if I ever ran into her again.

Y/N POV

My foot was drumming as I moved uncomfortably in my tight pants. I was wearing my scouts uniform, my long green jacket, to make things official. With my pregnant belly, these pants hugged a bit tight.

Kaneki was in the same attire sitting beside me banged up, as Maya held Kou and watched the girls behind us. Everyone was sitting silently, especially the girls. They had never seen me like this.

"Mrs. Ackerman we apologize. The military apologizes, your son must know things were hard out there. Communication to loved ones wasn't too high on the priority list." One of the other Commanders half ass responded.

I heard Kaneki suck in air, he knew what was about to happen.

My eyes shot wide open, glaring at them.

I snapped, no longer able to keep my anger at bay. This was my husbands life they were talking about, their Commander and they were writing him off as if he never meant a thing at all.

I slammed my fist down on the table as I shot up out of my seat, sending my chair flying backwards into the wall beside Maya as one of my hands came out to hold my belly.

"But having my fucking husband take a bullet to the head was!!!???? Are you fucking dense?! How was I not the first to know?!!! You don't think I know what kind of war zone it is out there? I served not one but in two wars, you close minded fucks!" My eyes gaped wider as they panned back and forth between the Commanders.

They all stared back in shock, clearing their throats uncomfortably as Kaneki's hand came out on top of mine.

"Mom you need to relax, the baby." He squeezed my hand gently as I continued to glare at the men across the table.
