Rio POV

"Thanks man." Turning around I reach over my shoulder, grabbing the beer out of Kanekis hand as he comes to take a seat beside me. Both of us sitting on his porch, it wasn't to far from ours. Made it nice having another guy around since.... Since everything.

"Don't sweat it." Kaneki brings his beer down to tap against mine, cheering silently.

Maya chases Kou up the yard and onto the deck as I bring the bottle to my lips.

Kou giggles as he runs to me, hands open. Squealing as he does his best to out run his mother.

"Hey, uncle Rio can't save you now!" Kaneki points behind his son at Maya, who was seconds from catching him.

Her arms swoops in, scooping up Kou up he screams out in frustration, he looked just like his father. I guess that was a family thing, we all looked like our old man.

"Staying for dinner tonight, Rio?" Maya spins Kou around in the air, speaking out loud as her eyes land on mine.

Kaneki turns his body to me, raising a brow.

A grin tugs at my lips, tilting the bottle back as I take a long swig.

"Tonight's Maya's famous pot stew...... for the fourth time this week." Kaneki blurts our before laughing, bringing his hand up to shield himself from Maya as she swats at him. His other hand gripping his beer bottle, bringing it to his lips as he tries not to spill.

I can't help but laugh at the wholesome encounter.

Something I never really had.

A family.

I throw back the rest of my beer, handing it back Kaneki as I stand up. Already feeling the affects of the alcohol.

God, I was such a fucking light weight.

Stretching my arms above my head before answering.

"Nahhh, thanks for the offer though. Y/N's got me on a pretty tight leash until next year. Says technically I'm hers until I'm 18." Rolling my eyes, looking back at the piar.

They both share a look before laughing out loud.

My brows tug together in confusion.

"What?" Was I missing something?

"She never used to be that bad." Maya slaps Kaneki on the back as they continue to laugh.

Rolling my eyes, I sigh.

"Yeah, she said Kou was a result of that, to lenient." They both stop laughing. Realizing she was right.

They were young parents, it wasn't some hidden secret. But they were in love, and that much was clear.

"Well we pay our cabin-"

"Dad paid the cabin off, try again." I roll my eyes again smiling at the two.

"Shut up your little turd, better get on home before nightfall, or you'll see the real monster come out at night....Mom." He raises his eyebrows at me as I roll my eyes again.

"Yeah, I keep hearing stories. Stories about how she ran her squad in the military, how stern she could be." I turn on my heel, making my way back fo the cabin not even a mile or two away.
