LOVING YOU IS DIFFICULT. It's hard, it's tumultuous, it's tiring, but he still gets up in the morning. He ties his shoes, collects his things, and prepares to meet you for your weekly date nights. Every week he gets you the same bouquet, a collection of white orchids wrapped in his pretty hands. The flowers of apology.

They mocked him and he merely stared at them, his words stuck in his throat as he always handed them to you with a sweet smile on his lips. Love tainted his words as dishonesty glinted in his eyes, but you were oblivious. You were oblivious and in love so you always grinned at him childishly, taking a seat wherever you two agreed to take your date night for the week.

You always ordered before him and it was almost ingrained into his body to know what you were ordering before you even asked. He always tapped his foot anxiously at this part, knowing you would want to ask him how he was. How was your day? How was your week? What do you think you're gonna order? I think I'm gonna get the. . .

It rang in his head before you had to say anything, but he let you finish your sentence anyway. He always answered similarly. There was something monotonous in his words, but you never bothered to look into it; it's how he normally sounded when speaking anyway. Todoroki tightly smiled.

"Honestly, I'm not sure what to get."

He knew you'd order for him; that was a given. Whenever he didn't order for himself, you would order for him anyway. Your reasoning would be that you didn't want him to starve and you felt selfish simply eating in front of him when he wasn't doing the same. He admired that, but couldn't seem to reflect your generosity.

Todoroki seemed to grow sick of this. He hoped that the clock would tick faster, knowing that you wished the opposite. For you, no matter if this was weekly, you cherished these moments. He never understood why they seemed so important, but he put up with it anyway. He tried to understand, but at some point, he didn't bother trying anymore.

So, he merely went back to tapping his foot against the floor, wanting to get his order, eat, and then leave. "Do you think you'll like what I ordered for you? It's a little different, but I figured you might want to try. . . " You trailed off again. No, it wasn't that you 'trailed off'. You were still talking, so incredibly engaged in a conversation that he didn't care about.

Well, it's not that he didn't care; he couldn't care. He no longer held the same weight to things as you did and what was worth to him was different from what you held close. The amount of effort and love you put in words on these weekly dates were something he couldn't reciprocate. He wasn't sure when he was going to break it to you, but he figured he could pretend until then.

It didn't hurt to pretend.

In all honesty, Todoroki wasn't sure when he had started pretending. He wasn't sure when he was actually in love with you until it had become 'just keeping you company'. The love you looked at him, he looked at you similarly, but it was mainly filled with pity. He pitied you. He pitied you for being so desperate for his presence.

He pitied you for putting so much in a relationship that he no longer cared about. He pitied you for being so optimistic. Of course, he wasn't sure if you realized yet, but if you had, he didn't understand why you had so much hope for a relationship that was meant to die. "Here's your order," The waiter's announcement snapped him from his daze.

"Wow, your order looks good," You smiled brightly before facing your own food, digging into it nonetheless. For some reason, you took more sips of your water than usual, clearing your throat afterward. His brows furrowed at the odd habit, you usually went straight into your food. Plus, you never ordered water; you always got lemonade instead.

"Why did you get water?" He asked, glancing down at his steak before cutting it. He popped a piece of it into his mouth, but it merely reminded him how bland it felt here. It didn't matter if the environment was fancy and regal. Now, with you, anything and everything felt bland. You hummed in response, shrugging.

"My throat hurts a bit, so I decided on getting water. Now that I think about it, I should've gotten ice with it. . . "

He didn't say anything after that, going back to his food. He watched you eat, smiling softly at him occasionally before grabbing your napkin and raising it to your lips. You coughed once, twice, gazing at the napkin briefly before folding it and bringing it down to your lap. Once again, he didn't care enough to ask.

He couldn't.

Todoroki didn't even bother asking why you chose such a fancy place. You always opted for something like a Denny's and back when he still loved you, the two of you had spent nearly all of your date in a 7-11 while hiding from the rain. He didn't bother asking, cutting into his steak. "Excuse me," You moved out of your seat, setting the napkin down and heading to the restroom.

Todoroki let out a breath of relief as soon as you were out of sight. Of course, it wasn't your fault, but part of him felt like it was. How dare you be so easy to fall out of love with? Or maybe that was his own fault? He wasn't exactly sure anymore. He tapped his foot, waiting for you. As soon as you were done, he could leave.

He could be free.

You returned within five minutes, smiling apologetically at him as a trace of red dribbled over your lip. He stared at you, confused. His brows furrowed, but before he could ask, you wiped it away swiftly. "Ah, some lipstick got stuck," You mumbled, your acting so convincing that he dropped the question entirely.

You were about to take your seat, suddenly freezing in place. "I understand that you won't bring it up yourself, so I will." Even though your words sounded confrontational, your voice was soft. You looked him in the eyes and he felt fear strike him, watching as more blood dribbled out of your mouth. You gazed at him with nothing but love.

"I know you fell out of love and I'm sorry," You said weakly. Your sentence was fruitless, however. You never got to finish it. Your lips parted and a large white orchid appeared from your mouth, blood pouring out from your lips as he gazed at you with shock. He was frozen, eyes wide with horror.

Other people in the restaurant did more than him, falling to your side and attempting to reawaken you, but you were already dead. Their eyes stared at your fallen figure and then back at Todoroki who was stiff. He could hear sirens in the background, his stare still focused on you. Once again, Todoroki Shoto didn't do anything.

He couldn't do anything.
