DABI WAS ANNOYED. His brows furrowed in frustration as he glanced down at his phone, scrolling through his contacts briefly before being rudely interrupted. Keigo looked at him with narrowed eyes, a tater tot set in between his fingers as the last one he had thrown had hit his friend's cheek before landing on Dabi's phone.
The black-haired male let out a grunt of annoyance and the blond quirked a brow in amusement, glad he had at least gotten a reaction out of his friend. "You look more focused than you do when you're constipated." It didn't help that Keigo had said that just as a few people had been passing by, some of them throwing strange looks in their direction.
Dabi scowled, picking up the potato treat and throwing it back at his friend. Takami just grinned childishly, swerving to the left in time to avoid the attack. The two fell silent again, but Keigo knew his friend would crack in a bit. Inevitably, Dabi did and Keigo hid a smirk, not wanting to mention Dabi's predictability.
"I tried calling her the other night and she hung up on me. Midterms haven't even started yet and she's already so busy apparently," Keigo looked at Dabi quizzically. Obviously, the latter didn't want to overstep boundaries and seem persistent, but it was definitely a little frustrating at the fact that he was never given a clear answer.
"Y/n doesn't look like the type to just kiss and ditch," Was all that Takami could offer, making the black-haired male glare at him, as if even accusing her of being in that category damaged him. The blond held up his hands in surrender, "I'm just saying." He shrugged once before gathering his things, leaving his friend behind.
Dabi didn't even want to ask why; it was probably because he was going to go visit his own girlfriend. He glanced up from his phone briefly, letting out a sigh only to make eye contact with Y/n. She blinked at him before offering a shy smile, waving before turning her attention to her friends, continuing her conversation with them.
Dabi's brows furrowed in irritation and he scowled, grabbing his own bag before leaving. Weeks passed like this and if it weren't for Dabi's workload, he definitely would've confronted the girl earlier. However, he had little to no free time and the moments that he did, he would spend it searching for her.
Most of the time, she was out of sight and he understood why; similar to his workload, hers had started getting more intense as well. However, Keigo had given him a tip the other day. Apparently, Y/n ventured into the campus cafeteria late at night for cups of coffee. Dabi typically didn't since late-night caffeine would just give him bad migraines, but he was debating on it now.
He tapped his phone, bitterly chewing on his bottom lip at the sight of no notifications. He slammed his laptop closed, squeezing his eyes shut at the sound before opening it again, making sure he didn't crack anything on accident. Dabi hadn't even bothered to check the time, so all he could do was hope the campus cafeteria was still open.
He practically sped walked down the steps, passing a few of his classmates who looked just as exhausted as he did. Dabi scratched his cheek, finally making it to the double doors and slipping past them into the cafeteria. He sat there for a moment, pulling out his phone and scrolling through it as he anxiously tapped his foot.
Only ten minutes after he had arrived, he turned his head when he heard the doors open again. True to his word, Y/n had walked in, seeming tired as she stumbled towards one of the barstools and sighed before glancing up at the coffee machine. She was stuck in a brief internal debate as she spun the k-cup holder, brows furrowed in thought.
However, after a moment, she picked one and slipped it into its allotted spot. The machine whirred as she poured in some water, setting a mug underneath its dispenser afterward. This is it. Knowing this was the best chance to confront her, he stood up. He leaned against a wall, teal eyes staring at her before he knocked his knuckles against the wall twice.
"Hey, angel," He mumbled, making sure she knew it was him based on the nickname. He watched as she tensed at the sound of his voice, a pang of anxiety hitting him again. He fought against it, striding up to her smoothly. Y/n ran her tongue over her lips, slowly turning to look over her shoulder and lock gazes with him.
She seemed hesitant and nervous, only feeding into Dabi's greatest fear. Maybe she did want him to leave her alone; she just didn't have the words to say it. "Hi," Her voice was small and quiet, a small rasp showcasing how tired she was. He leaned on the counter, setting his elbows on it as he looked at her.
"Been busy?"
"Yeah,"
"Tired?"
"Mhm,"
The coffee machine stopped buzzing, the last drips of caffeine creating a ripple effect in the mug's brown pool. She reached for it, stiffening when Dabi got closer to her, his chest nearly pressed against her back. "Leaving so soon, princess?" Bringing her hand closer to her torso, Dabi took advantage of that, grabbing both of her wrists.
He pinned them against the counter beside her, making sure they were far from the heat of the coffee machine. Nonetheless, his grip was loose and they both knew what it meant; it was up to her to stay, he had given her the opportunity to leave. However, the black-haired male was stunned when she swallowed harshly and looked up at him.
"Are you gonna tell me why you've been avoiding me?"
"I've just been busy—"
"—that's a load of bullshit, baby. We both know that." His gruff tone had immediately dropped to a softer one, remembering that they were in a common room. Y/n blinked at him, her gaze drifting to the floor as his eyes narrowed. He swallowed harshly before muttering. "If you want me to leave you alone, just say that."
Her eyes widened and she shook her head furiously, "No, no! I-I don't want you to leave me alone, promise. I've just been. . . scared." Dabi tilted his head at her, curious about what she had to say. Y/n mumbled quietly. "I've never really been in a relationship and I. . . don't really know what to do. I'm scared."
He smiled at her, "We don't have to put a label on it if you don't want to and if you do, we'll take things slow. At your pace, okay? I won't do anything you don't want me to and if anything, communication is a big thing to me; I'm always open." He looked at her reassuringly and she let out a breath, her eyes jumping from his to his lips.
"Just kiss me,"
He was stunned to hear those words leave her lips, but he complied anyway. The hand that was holding her right wrist had drifted down to her waist instead, skimming the skin of her hip as he pulled her closer. Their lips moved fervently against one anothers and she let out a quiet moan when he had pulled away to kiss her neck.
Just as quickly as he moved away, she had pulled her left hand out of his hold, using it to tilt his jaw and bring his face back to hers. It felt like hours of just delving into one another after so long, but in fact, it had just been minutes. "Y'know, I can't get you out of my head, princess," He pulled away to stare at her flustered expression, leaving small kisses on her neck.
"The way you always look away after getting so flustered, your little smiles, the way your fringes never listened to you and you'd have the cutest frustrated pout," He smiled endearingly at her as she looked away just as he said. A small laugh left him and he pulled her closer, his heart feeling even more full as she set her hands on his cheeks.
She kissed him once before smiling warmly.
"Then don't."
