SHE WAS DEAF, that much was clear. However, Bakugo wasn't going to complain. She, ironically, was the perfect roommate. Whenever he decided to rant, she would simply turn her hearing aid down until she was sure that he was done. Y/n would also clean up after herself fairly well. Commonly, when she wasn't studying, she was cooking.

The deaf girl absolutely adored trying new recipes and after learning about the blond's affinity for all things spicy, she started making more food with high heat units. And Bakugo was actually glad to be home, being able to dish himself as much as he wanted without her complaining before he showered and went to sleep.

It was almost like both of their schedules were imprinted in their mind and it had been like that for months. Sometimes it was funny to see him patrol near her university, making her snort at how threatening he tried to look when she had seen him trip on his own shoes in the morning. He would always scowl at her, but she knew the real reason why he always hung around her.

The blond was always there to protect her and constantly insisted to patrol around the university she went to. Y/n didn't complain though and didn't bring it up either, always shooting him a teasing smile and a shy wave before heading into the building. And when he came home from all of his hard work, she wouldn't bother him.

She would let him do his own thing and he'd let her do hers.

There was an odd reliance they had for each other, almost like an agreed 'I'll respect your space, but I also care about you and I'll show it through my actions'. Occasionally, Bakugo would pass out on the couch and after letting him sleep for a few hours, Y/n would always slap him awake and tell him to go take a shower.

Her excuse was that she smelled (something she noted on a notebook she always carried), but her real reason was that she didn't want any of his potential wounds to get infected. And every time he opened his mouth to argue with her, she would merely dial down her hearing aid. He knew she did, but he'd always continue.

The same thing could be said when she studied for exams. He'd sometimes find her slumped over her desk, completely passed out with her head buried in a textbook. Bakugo would always sigh and cover her with a blanket, waking her up a few hours later with a snack and an offer to watch a movie.

He may have never gone as far to university, but he knew better than to let her cram until she passed out from something other than fatigue. Y/n would always cave in (he'd probably argue otherwise) and would join him on the couch, watching Disney movies until they both ended up falling asleep next to each other.

Somewhere along the way, Bakugo found himself falling in love with her. He would clean up after her on the days he knew she didn't have the energy to. He'd organize little things that she used to and he'd make sure to empty the dishwasher, keeping her from doing any extra work. It was almost laughable, but Y/n never complained.

Being oblivious, she just figured Bakugo was picking up her habits.

The girl wasn't exactly wrong, but her idea of his intentions was way off from his actual ones. "Are you done tuning me out yet?" Bakugo raised a brow at Y/n, digging into his rice after moving his hands at her. He had made sure to pick up some sign language along the way and Y/n seemed intrigued when she first realized but merely smiled at him gratefully.

"Are you done ranting?" She smirked, responding to him as he let out a sigh and rolled his eyes before nodding. He watched as she moved the switch of her hearing aids, sliding them up as a slight ring erupted in her ears before settling. "Christmas is coming up soon; are you going to go visit your family?" She signed, scooping some rice into her mouth.

He chewed, brows furrowed in concentration. "You have midterms around then, right? You're not going to go home." He pointed out, speaking gruffly before shoving another spoonful of rice. Y/n blinked at him, tilting her head as she moved her hands in response. "I do have midterms, but that shouldn't stop you from visiting your family."

Bakugo shook his head, "It's fine. I don't feel like dealing with that old hag on Christmas day."

His excuse was poor, but it made her laugh. Her laugh was like a high-pitched squeak and when he had first met her, he had considered it annoying. However, his attitude changed, his cheeks flushing as he glanced down at his plate. "I'll stay with you for Christmas," The girl nodded excitedly at that, going back to her food.

Weeks passed since that incident and he found himself staying at home more. Bakugo had managed to score himself a decent break for the time being after moving up so many positions over the course of a few months. Now, he was only needed and called for emergencies. Otherwise, he was allowed to stay home or patrol if he wanted to.

The Christmas tree was all set up, glimmering in the living room as the snow poured outside, frost kissing the windows of their apartment. "Let's hope someone doesn't call you," Y/n signed after setting the hot chocolate down, a small smile on her lips as she pointed to his phone and then gestured to the bright Christmas tree.

He nodded before cocking a brow at her, "And you better not cram tonight."

Her laugh resounded again and he found himself softly smiling at her, his eyes filled with nothing but love and adoration. "C'mere," He gestured to her and she cocked her head to the side, but reluctantly sat beside him anyway. Bakugo reached his hand up, watching her shiver as his fingers brushed against the shell of her ear.

Y/n looked at him with nothing but pure trust and curiosity, blinking innocently as their eyes locked onto one another's. He pressed his hands against the switch of her hearing aid, slowly rolling it down as the sound dimmed out. Bakugo, now assured that she couldn't hear him, let out a breath, pressing their foreheads together.

Soft and quiet, the words left his lips.

"I love you."

He knew that she couldn't hear him, but he couldn't help but let out the words as quiet as possible, eyes closed in a brief amount of bliss. Yet, he still felt like a coward, knowing that Y/n had no idea what he was saying. The blond finally pulled away as her hands reached up to her hearing aids, sliding the switch up as her ears caught the sounds around them again.

"What did you say?" She signed curiously as he melted at her innocent expression.

He grinned malevolently, "I said that you're ugly."

A small gasp left her and she smacked his shoulder, brows furrowed as she pouted after.

Bakugo chuckled lightly at her childish expression.

Nah, I think it's better to leave her oblivious for a little longer.
