THIS HAD BEEN GOING on for weeks. The little girl kicked the back of her father's seat again, swinging her legs wildly as she held her soccer ball against her chest. Bakugo grunted, clenching the steering wheel tighter as his child complained. Natsuki pouted, "Daddy, I want McDonald's!" Her father licked his lips, gritting his teeth afterward.
"We have food at home," He hissed malevolently, beginning to get fed up.
She frowned even more, throwing her head back and whining loudly. "Daddy!" Bakugo suddenly pulled over, whirling his head around to glare at her with his sharp red eyes. "Shut up or you're going to wake up Hideo." Natsuki instantly shrunk into her seat, clutching her soccer ball tighter as her eyes fell to the ground.
Bakugo sighed in relief, glancing over at the sleeping three-year-old sat next to Natsuki. He pushed the gear lever again, pressing against the gas pedal as they pivoted forward. The car had become chillingly silent, Natsuki pursing her lips shut as Hideo snored beside her, his head falling against his covered seatbelt.
Pulling into the driveway, it wasn't a surprise to see his wife sitting on the porch, a mug of what was probably tea in her hand as she used the other to pet their dog, Missy (short for missile launcher). As soon as he parked, Natsuki unlocked the door and pushed the button of her seatbelt, grabbing her things and running out.
"Natsu—" He started fruitlessly, watching as his little girl ran up the steps and stumbled into the house, Missy following after her. Katsuki sighed, unbuckling himself and opening the door, getting out to untangle his son from his seatbelt. As soon as he did, he was approached by Y/n. "Natsuki just ran in, what happened?" A frown shaped her lips.
Bakugo chewed on his bottom lip, a curse slipping past his lips despite a very easily influenced three-year-old being in his arms. "I fucking snapped at her," He muttered, letting his wife take Hideo from him. Her frown deepened and she glanced at him, "You should apologize to her, Kat. I'm going to get them showered before dinner."
Y/n quickly pecked his forehead before going in the house, leaving him as Missy padded towards Bakugo, sniffing his hand. "Hey, girl," Bakugo said, pausing to scratch in between her ears before heading inside. He closed the door, locking it as Missy barked, suddenly heading up the steps. Katsuki headed into the kitchen, freezing as soon as he came in.
He didn't even feel like cooking.
The ordeal with his daughter didn't make his mood any better and he had been trying recently; he'd been so busy with pro-hero work that it was mainly his wife that was raising the kids. They had a few arguments every now and then because of it but they made up just as quickly. Now, he was abruptly integrating into the 'dad' role so it wasn't surprising that Natsuki was the most startled.
Katsuki let out a groan, snatching his keys again before heading out. The door slammed behind him and Missy barked, her claws scratching against the floor. Y/n sighed, brows furrowed. If Bakugo had left because he became too overwhelmed, she was sure that there was going to be another argument again.
"Why did Daddy leave?" Natsuki asked in a quiet voice, letting her mother scrub her sore arms. Y/n pulled her bottom lip in between her teeth, sucking in a breath. "I don't know. Maybe he got called back into work," She reassured, pecking her daughter's forehead before shampooing her blond locks.
Right when Y/n had finished dressing Hideo, the door opened again before loudly slamming closed. "Play with your brother, alright?" Y/n said in a hushed tone, little Natsuki nodding as she chattered with the easily influenced Hideo. Y/n shut their bedroom door, swiftly making her way down the steps as she grew angry.
"You better have a damn good reason for—"
She was cut off as a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close as his lips crashed against hers. Y/n lost herself in the moment briefly before pushing him harshly, brows knitted as she glared at him powerfully. "I'm trying, okay? I'm trying," Katsuki's voice had grown quiet, the bags on his wrists rustling as he held her gently.
Y/n's hands rested against his chest and she exhaled through her nose, "Okay." They stayed like that for a few minutes before Y/n realized that he'd actually bought McDonald's. "What's the occasion?" She glanced at him quizzically, taking one of the happy meals out of his grasp and setting it on the table.
They rarely ate out since Katsuki usually reigned in the kitchen with his spicy curry or Y/n managed to whip up something for the kids. "Just fucking watch," He reassured, pressing his finger against his lips before he raised his voice to call Natsuki and Hideo. Natsuki held her brother's hand, the two heading downstairs.
They stopped in front of Bakugo and Y/n, blinking confusedly. "Why are you two standing like that?" Natsuki asked, hardly looking at Bakugo as her eyes mainly focused on her mother. Y/n didn't say anything, suddenly scooping up her brother and carrying him off to his chair. "I got McDonald's," Katsuki stated blandly, crossing his arms.
He watched as his daughter's expression morphed into an excited one, her little legs bumbling over to her chair as she slid into it swiftly. She claimed her happy meal with a triumphant look on her face, stuffing her face with one of the french fries while Y/n laughed, giving one ketchup-dipped fry to Hideo.
As Natsuki nibbled on another fry, eyes glittering as she met her father's gaze with a bright smile, he knew everything was going to be alright.
