A 'SEER', that's what they had called her. From a young age, L/n Y/n had both the blessing and the curse to be able to see everyone's soulmate. It was a powerful combination of her mother and father's quirk, both beyond proud to see what she could become in the future, but it had gone downhill from there.

Time and time again, Y/n had ruined relationships and potential loves. The first was her own parents'. They were at the doctor's office, having just discovered and identified her quirk, and to say that they were proud was an understatement. "Mommy," She had suddenly said, catching her parents' attention.

"Hm?" M/n had looked at her innocent little daughter as she twiddled her fingers.

"You and Daddy aren't soulmates."

That was just the beginning of it all.

That's why it didn't come as much of a shock to see her parents get divorced and watch her dad move to the states, managing to settle down with a pretty white lady that Y/n had no idea about. During those trials and nights of endless guilt, there was only one person that stuck with her, Midoriya Izuku.

Yes, the kind little broccoli who lived just a few blocks down wasn't hesitant to be her first shoulder to cry on after the sudden revelation. And even after that event, the two stayed close and when you'd find one, the other wouldn't be far behind. Year after year, they'd end up in the same class. However, that pattern drastically changed when they'd been accepted into Yuuei.

"I'm going into the management course, Izu."

"Okay," He had cheered for her even then, holding up two thumbs-up with a bright grin. "I guess you'll have to manage me in the future, Y/n!" Y/n had pinked at his words, feeling the light tug on her fingers as he held up his thumbs. She had known for years, but was too shy to say anything. "I will, Izu."

Y/n had watched countless red strings be brought together or torn apart with her aid, but for some reason, she could never properly deal with her own. Just the thought of him made her chest tighten and her heart flutter, her words getting stuck in her throat. And the painful process just repeated itself when she got lost in his green eyes all over again.

That's why, when she watched her best friend pink at someone totally different. Someone with warm chocolate brown eyes, short hair that matched her eyes, and a cute blush that adorned her face, she knew what had to be done. Over the years, L/n Y/n had ruined countless relationships and devastated love after love, person after person.

So, her next actions held no hesitation.

With teary eyes, she cut her own string with a quick swipe of her scissors, glancing at the two that chattered in the hallway. Y/n watched as the threads of the string whithered away and only one end stuck out on her pinky finger, an exact replica attached to Izuku's. With a brave smile, she wiped away her tears and tottered out into the hallway, catching his gaze.

He smiled brightly at her, waving energetically. "Oh, Y/n!" He greeted her with such blind optimism that her heart hurt. She'd been watching him for weeks; how his cheeks would turn pink whenever he talked to Uraraka, how he'd compliment her on their walks home, and the occasional moments that his hand would not-so-unintentionally brush against hers.

Y/n had seen all of it and she didn't need another second to contemplate her next actions. She had never tried it before, but she could just hope to God that it worked. Y/n subconsciously greeted them back, a small smile playing at her lips as she grabbed Uraraka's end, finding no weight on the other end of it.

Glad that her plan had worked out so far, she didn't stop herself to do the next steps. Y/n grabbed Izuku's end and Ochaco's, praying in her head as she squeezed her eyes shut. She knew that to the other two were staring at her like she was crazy, watching her press air in between her fingers like her life depended on it.

Suddenly, Y/n paused and took a step back, a deep breath of relief leaving her lips as she looked at the newly fixed strings. It seemed as if Izuku had been explaining Y/n's quirk to Ochaco, the brunette's face a bright pink. He seemed to look at Y/n for confirmation, a quizzical look on his face. She nodded in response and his cheeks grew warm.

"So, you're my. . . ?"

"No way. . . "

The two didn't hesitate to embrace each other and the tightening in Y/n's chest grew harsher. Pain throbbed in her heart and she scurried off, wiping the tears away from her eyes wildly as she tried to look anywhere else, but behind her. L/n Y/n had ruined a lot of relationships in her life. And if she could fix her best friend's, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

Even if it meant ruining her own.
