"I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PUT US TOGETHER," He complained for what sounded like the umpteenth time. His fingers dug into the snowy cracks of the mountain, propelling himself upward swiftly. If it wasn't for the freezing cold and his need to save his energy, Bakugo would have blasted his way up this snowy tower by now.

Y/n licked her lips, moisturizing the cracked skin as she copied Bakugo's actions. The girl chewed on the inside of her cheek before speaking, pausing only to fix her beanie. "It's not exactly paradise to me either, but let's just get this over with." He clicked his tongue at her, as if expecting her to start an argument of some sort.

However, Y/n didn't have the energy for that. She was tired. Her muscles ached, her bones creaked, and she was sure that if it wasn't for her heat-based quirk, her fingers would've fallen off by now. It didn't help that her neck was abnormally cold either, the giant metal buckle taking space where a scarf would've been handy.

"If I didn't have you weighing me down, I would've been at the top of this shitty mountain already."

She took in a breath, "We're not supposed to be getting to the top. We're just supposed to rescue the other hikers that got lost around here." Bakugo huffed, a spark igniting on his palm. However, the cloth of his glove seemed to catch it pretty well, merely absorbing it to induce some more heat.

Sometimes Bakugo was a little smarter than he looked. Y/n watched in awe before tuning into his words, her foot stepping onto a jagged rock as she pushed herself upward. "Yeah? And why the fuck couldn't they have called Hawks or some shit?" He complained, seeming to climb two feet higher for every foot that Y/n got through.

Y/n grew more frustrated, heat tingling at the base of her skin. The cold rosiness of her cheeks soon began to replace itself with a hot one, her face growing redder slightly. "Because he's busy; that and his feathers would probably freeze off. And before you ask, they couldn't ask Endeavor either because he's retired. You were at the meeting too, try paying attention next time."

She clicked her tongue, the heat of her hands pouring through the glove as it circulated to the rock she held onto. The snow around it melted within seconds, water drifting down the mountain as she hiked up. Bakugo made it to a ledge, sniffling slightly. "Save your quirk," He tutted, glaring at her.

The h/c haired girl caught up with him quickly, watching him walk down a narrow path as his boots dug into the fluffy snow. Y/n didn't hesitate to follow him, more anger flowing out of her as the snow underneath her feet melted away, clearing a rocky (but much safer) path. By the time she made it to where Bakugo paused, she grew confused.

Where is he? Her head whirled around.

He called her name suddenly, his gruff voice echoing across the mountain. "We can rest here for now." He beckoned her into a large cave. It was clear that he wasn't the type to rest, his legs jittering as he tapped them on the floor anxiously. Y/n sighed in relief, traipsing into the large cave. The heat on her skin cooled as she wrapped her arms around herself.

As she watched him scrape off the snow of his shoes, her brows furrowed. Did he get me angry just so I didn't slip off? She watched him carefully, his head suddenly tilting up as their eyes met briefly. "What?" He asked gruffly, eyes narrowed at her curiously. Y/n swallowed, shaking her head. "Nothing, don't worry about it."

She took another look around the cave, sucking in a breath.

Maybe it'll be warmer in here. Her eyes glittered.

She couldn't have been more wrong. After about an hour, the cave had dropped nearly fifteen degrees and they weren't able to go outside either, the howling winds and flurries of snow made sure of that. Instead, the two were forced to bundle up beside each other with a small fire sitting in front of them; courtesy of a spark rock and Y/n's flaming hands.

However, soon enough, that flitted out as well. Bakugo watched Y/n remove her gloves, setting them on the ground. "What the fuck are you doing?" His eyes were narrowed, lips pulled into a tight line as he looked at her with a tired expression on his face. She didn't have to look at him to be able to tell that he needed rest.

Her hands lit up all of a sudden, the fire roaring as it whirled from her fingertips. "You're going to tire yourself out doing that," He tutted, eyes drifting shut gradually as he spoke before he suddenly jolted himself awake, digging his other foot into his ankle. Y/n glanced at him, "You need it more than me; I can at least regulate my own temperature."

He clicked his tongue but didn't deny it, fixated on the flame as it grew closer to him. His eyes closed as he leaned over, his head finding a home on her shoulder. She knew that if she moved, he'd wake him up and he'd complain, so she merely sat in silence. After another two hours, that didn't prove to be an option.

After the first hour of him sleeping, Y/n's shoulder had started to ache so she had gently moved him to lie his head on her folded up jacket. She had stripped off the cloth after the weight of his head became unbearable; that and the heat of the jacket only made her sweat, threatening to flicker out the room that danced on her fingertips.

Y/n let out a breath, her head leaning against the wall of ice behind them. She knew it was daring to even try to surpass the temperature of the cave they were in; it was impressive that she was able to keep the flame going for this long anyway. Her fingertips were beyond red and Y/n knew once she stopped, her hand would be caked with burnt skin.

The temperature only seemed to drop harsher and harsher, her baited breathing distracting her as Katsuki slept soundly beside her. His eyes were screwed shut and she swallowed, glancing at his cracked skin and the blue hue that decorated his lips. She reached up, pressing the button of the metal buckle around her collar.

I can keep him from dying.

That's all she focused on, the collar activating.

"Are you sure you want to undo your temperature regulator?"

"Yes."

"Procedure confirmed, dismantling collar."

The metal fell apart in her hands, snapping apart before it clattered onto the ice next to her. Bakugo woke up at the sound, his eyes slowly fluttering open as he glanced at his old classmate. "Why did you take it off?" His voice was hoarse as he spoke up, her eyes softening at the innocent glint in his eyes.

"It just made me feel uncomfortable; you can go back to sleep, Katsuki."

He hummed lowly, his eyes closing again as he drifted off.
