"ONE LARGE HOT CHOCOLATE."
That's what had caught her attention first. Despite how angry he looked, he always ordered one of the sweetest drinks on the menu. It was funny, watching how his jaw clenched and seeing the prominent scowl plastered on his face, and then hearing those words fall out of his mouth. "Do you want any marshmallows?" Y/n asked, clicking away on the tablet.
He glanced up, staring at her wordlessly for a bit. Bakugo shoved his hands into his pockets, muttering quietly. "Whipped cream too," Y/n blinked, nodding slowly before tapping away at the screen some more. For some reason, this mixture sounded fairly familiar to her, but she had no idea why.
However, she pushed it to the back of her mind, beaming at him briefly before heading to the back to prepare his drink. Meanwhile, the irritated blond stood starkly at the front, hands still shoved in his pockets as he looked around. He had been there multiple times over the past two weeks, but this is one of the few times that he managed to get Y/n to take his order.
He was surprised that he hadn't caught her attention earlier. Or maybe he had and he didn't realize that she was hinting back? Or maybe she was ignoring it? Bakugo ruffled his hair, the scowl deepening. It didn't matter. It shouldn't matter. Why would he want her attention anyway?
That's why he was extra aggressive when retrieving his drink. And if Y/n hadn't been so busy putting away the cash, she would've realized the harsh glare she was receiving from the cute stranger. "Well, have a nice day!" She chirped happily, waving him off. However, he was already out the door, shoving past an incoming person to get out.
"Are you stupid?" A deadpan voice cut through the air. Y/n turned her head, glancing at Mai, her co-worker. She had a bland look on her face, raising an eyebrow at the h/c haired girl. "That dude was practically stabbing you in his mind. How did you not notice?" The oblivious girl tilted her head, "He was?"
Mai let out a groan, running her hand down her face before sighing and taking her position at the other cash register. Weeks passed and the pattern seemed to evolve. He seemed to arrive quicker and earlier than the rest, always coming in early to order the same thing. Hot chocolate, mini marshmallows, whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
However, the cinnamon thing was something that happened later on, nearly a month after he had started ordering hot chocolate in the first place. And this had to be his sixty-third order in the same little café and the approximately the fifteenth time that Y/n had added powdered cinnamon on top of the sweet drink.
"What are you doing?" Mai asked, hazel eyes watching her co-worker carefully. She was stiff and seemingly tense, fingers curled around the metal edge of the counter. "Making the regular's order," Even up until now, Y/n had no idea what his name was. She cast a glance at Mai, frowning when she saw how tense she was. "Why?"
"Because that's my order. That's what I make every morning for myself when I open up shop," Y/n's mouth dropped into an 'o' shape, looking like a fish out of water. The girl grinned, part of her heart twisting as she teased her friend. "Maybe he likes you, Mai." The black-haired girl rolled her eyes at the revelation.
"Definitely not otherwise he would've come to me so I can take his orders."
Y/n paused for a moment, her hands hovering midair. Her cheeks flushed a bright pink, "Does that mean he likes me?" Mai shrugged lazily, moving to the front to take someone else's order in the mean time. Quickly finishing off her job, Y/n capped the drink and brought it towards the front, sliding it to the blond.
"Here's your drink," She said shyly, tapping away to ring him up as quickly as possible. Mai, sensing her friend's hesitance, rolled her eyes and rang up another customer before speaking up to the both of them. "Hey, you blondie," Her voice was bland and cold as she called out the customer, eyebrows raised.
"Thanks for copying my favorite." She said.
Unsurprisingly, Bakugo's eyes widened for a second, eyebrows jumping. Just as Mai guessed, the blond definitely had feelings for her co-worker. He took the drink reluctantly, eyes darting to the black-haired cashier before going to the h/c haired one. "What do you fucking drink?" He said in a gruff tone, Y/n's eyes widening at the question.
"Um, me?"
"Yeah, you dumbass."
"Oh, um," Her cheeks flushed. "I usually get the matcha green tea thing."
"Next time, get me that," He roughly said, reddish eyes piercing her e/c ones.
The girl sheepishly nodded, sweaty hands scrunching up the front of her apron. "Jesus Christ, dude. Just ask for her number already," Mai said, rolling her eyes and throwing her head back as a few customers chuckled at the interaction. This time, it was Bakugo's turn to pink, watching as the cute barista across from him scrawled out her number before passing it to him.
He slowly took the paper, shoving it into his pocket afterwards before storming out of the café, having enough embarrassment for the day. "How did he even know what you liked then?" Y/n asked with a quiet voice, face still warm as she took someone else's order. Mai shrugged, "I was talking to Hana about what to add on the menu, maybe he overheard it."
"Either way, you're happy that it happened, aren't you?" She asked, a small smile tugging at her lips as she went back to taking orders. Y/n smiled softly, looking down at her hands that still stung with the warmth of the cup of hot chocolate. "Yeah, I am."
