"PAPA, LOOK! IT'S NEMO!"
"Bub, that's an octopus."
It was officially Reiji's sixth birthday and Ara had just turned two. Although the little girl was still learning, she was an avid one. She blazed through any book that was brought back from the library. However, whatever learning attitude she had channeled into her own attitude. She was often defiant and sassy with simple orders and was incredibly picky about her food.
It made parenting a bit hard, but all Eijiro and Y/n could do was hope that her little phase would be over soon. Reiji held onto his mother's hand as Eijiro held onto Ara's, the two walking on ahead. The two-year-old had an incredibly short attention span, so moving from tank to tank was a must.
"Mama," Reiji spoke up, turning his head up to his mother. He had been relatively quiet this entire trip, taking in the scenery for himself and occasionally asking his parents to use their phones to take pictures of certain creatures. "Yes, baby?" Y/n asked, pushing Ara's stroller as the two followed Eijiro and Ara at a much slower pace.
"I wanted to ask Papa for something else, but I don't know if he'll say yes."
Y/n could practically hear the pout in his voice, dropping to her knees instantly as she poked her son's cheek, a worried frown on her lips. "Aw, why? You know your papa would practically move mountains for you. No request is too big or too small for your papa." She smiled reassuringly only to watch the boy nervously twiddle with his fingers before speaking up again.
"I-I wanted to ask Papa t-to wear his hero suit."
Y/n felt her heart melt at his words and she smiled warmly at him. "His suit will be really big on you, baby. I don't want you to trip and fall playing heroes. Do you want me to fashion you one in the same size?" Reiji shook his head adamantly, clearly wanting the real thing. He spoke again, his voice a little clearer.
"Can I at least wear the mask?"
"Of course you can, baby. Just ask your papa later, okay? I'm sure he'll say yes."
"Slow!" Ara had returned, practically dragging Kirishima in turn. His red eyes darted to his wife, an apologetic smile on his lips. The rambunctious two-year-old huffed disapprovingly at her mother and her brother, shaking her head sassily afterward. "Now that isn't very nice, bub. It's your brother's day, alright? He can take his time."
Kirishima had always been the softest when it came to scoldings, explaining it in a way that the kids would understand. Y/n struggled a bit more with that, but she was the best at comforting the kids, so it was a good balance overall. "Hmph!" The two-year-old turned her head to the side, refusing to listen any further.
"You can act like that all you want, but I expect you to say sorry at some point, bub. It isn't nice to boss Reiji and your mama around." He tried to look at his son, but Reiji had avoided his gaze. He was clearly nervous about asking his father what he considered such a big favor. Eijiro grew confused, glancing at his wife as he tilted his head questioningly.
Y/n smiled at him, shaking her head while mouthing "I'll tell you later". Eijiro simply nodded, going along with it. "It's almost time for the dolphin show, right? We should get going," Y/n mumbled quietly, glancing over at her watch. Eijiro blinked, realizing what she was talking about.
"Oh, yeah. I almost forgot about that."
The four made their way towards a more open area that was nearly filled with a huge tank. Within it was a few dolphins, most of them swimming near the bottom or gliding along the rim of the tank before returning to their trainer who tossed them some fish. Reiji sat beside his mother, Ara sitting next to him.
