Dawsey: Starting a Family Part 1

Chapter 23

A Couple Hours Later (3 PM):
Matt's POV: As I finished getting ready for the firehouse Christmas Party, I smiled as I looked at myself in the mirror and went to check my hair. I swear, if this baby gives me grey hair...I am not going to be impressed. Me and Severide are in a competition. First one to get grey hairs gets to be called old friend. And the other one? Young friend. I am so scared to get greys. Finishing up by brushing my teeth, I went to look at Gabby as she stood in front of the mirror in a tight dress.

She was obviously checking to see whether she has a baby bump based on how she was standing. "Babe, I can tell you for a fact that you do not have a baby bump yet." Going to grab my watch from my side table (I took it off before taking a shower), I then went to put it on while looking at Gabby. Smiling as she turned to look at me, she nodded. "We are telling everybody tonight right?" I then thought about it and nodded. "Honestly, I want to be the one to tell people. I don't want it getting out because one of the people who knows says it."

Gabby smiled when I said that before walking over to me and going to give me a kiss. "By the way, I keep forgetting to say this. Thank you so much for making this transition back home so easy for me. I know it's been hard the past couple months but..." I then stopped her and just brought her close. "Gabby, you don't need to thank me for that. It's my job as your husband to make this transition as easy as possible. You have nothing to worry about because that isn't good for the baby." Gabby smiled when I said that before going to kiss me softly.

"Don't forget we are going to my mom's place tomorrow afternoon to do Christmas Dinner. I just wanted to remind you. So keep this clean, you look nice in it." I then laughed when she siad that. "Yeah, I am going to be wearing something much nicer to your family christmas. Antonio is always wearing a suit. By the way, when is he getting back in town?" Gabby then smiled. "Today. I think he should be in town right now. I am positive he is going to come see us at some point. I texted him that we are at the firehouse tonight just in case he comes to see us."

I agreed and nodded while walking out with her. That's when I heard a knock on the door. "If that's Antonio...I am going to be really freaked out." Gabby laughed when I said that. "Oh relax, even if it is...it makes sense. He is going to be in town to spend Christmas with his kids." That's when I heard Antonio yell from outside. "Can you stop jiber jabbering and let me in so I can congratulate my sister!" I laughed when he said that before going to open the door. "Antonio, how are you? How was your flight from the Dominican this morning?"

He then looked at me. "You keep her safe during the pregnancy." I then stared at him and sighed, knowing that would happen. Gabby then looked at him. "Antonio, relax and come give me a hug. He is going to take care of me, I promise. You know he has always taken care of me. He is a great husband." Antonio nodded when she said that before going to hug her. "Congratulations sis. I am so happy for you guys." Gabby smiled when he said that. "Good, now why in the world are you here before going to see your kids?" Antonio smiled. "I am on my way. Just had to see you."

I nodded and agreed with him when he said that before walking over to Gabby and wrapping my arm around her. "We are going to see you tomorrow for Christmas at your mom's. We are not going to church though. We don't want Gabby to have morning sickness in the pews." Antonio then thought about it and agreed. "God, that would be discusting. So, we are doing Christmas tomorrow?" Gabby nodded and smiled. "I didn't even think you were coming. Me and mom thought it was just going to be the three of us tomorrow." Antonio nodded. "It's a surprise."

Gabby smiled when he said that. "Oh mom doesn't know." Antonio nodded. "You tell her and I am not going to be happy." We both agreed with him when he said that. "Oh, by the way...you do not tell your kids that I am pregnant. That is our job. We are telling our friends tonight." Antonio smiled when he said that. "That include Sylvie?" I then sighed and bit my lip. "Antonio, she's getting really serious with somebody. I think they are even engaged, not sure exactly. Also, we are only 4 weeks apparently so...relax please." Antonio nodded when I said that.

"Well listen, just had to stop by quickly. I am going to be here until the New Year so we should get together." I then looked at him. "Sure, because you are not going to talk to Voight and get your job back? Be honest with yourself Antonio, now that Gabby is back here in Chicago and pregnant...you are going to try and get a job here again to move back." Antonio smiled when I said that. "Maybe I will. Now listen, you guys are obviously going somewhere." I nodded and agreed with him. "Firehouse 51 Party. We are going to tell everybody there."

Antonio then looked at us. "Isn't it too soon to tell people other than family?" Gabby nodded. "Exactly, family. You know that firehouse 51 is family to us. We literally go out every day risking our lives, and are willing to die for each other." I then went to rub her back and nodded, kissing her head. "Let's just not talk or think about that okay?" Gabby understood what I meant when I said that and agreed with me. "Well listen Antonio, we have to get going. I don't want to be late for the party. Last time I checked, I haven't seen a bunch of these people in a while."

Antonio nodded and smiled when she said that. "Of course." Gabby then grabbed my hand and rubbed it. "I am going to walk Antonio out. See you at the car okay?" I nodded and agreed with her, watching her leave with Antonio. Meanwhile, I went to grab my keys and then followed her outside. Locking the door behind me, I smiled as we prepared to head to the firehouse for the Christmas Party where we would tell people we are pregnant.
