Dawsey: Starting a Family Part 1

Chapter 55

Matt's POV:
After putting some boxers on, I smiled as I came out to the kitchen to make us some breakfast. "Some eggs for breakfast good babe?" Gabby agreed from the bedroom where was getting dressed. "Sure thing, I will be right out and we can eat out there. Just make sure you use that towel you brought in case someone comes to the door." I laughed when she said that. "Believe me when I say this babe, you are going to be the only one...other than our kids...who will ever see me in my boxers." I then went to set my towel down on the counter just in case.

Going to put a pan on the stove, I went to turn on the heat before grabbing the eggs and some bacon I already made. I like to make it ahead of time so I can just whip up breakfast in case I am running late for shift. Well Severide likes to eat it too, that's the only reason there is some left. If Severide didn't live with us right now...there would be nothing for us to quickly reheat. That's when I remembered something, weren't he and Stella coming over today to celebrate Christmas with us. "Hey babe, you remember if Severide and Stella are coming over for Christmas?"

Gabby then came out in her lingerie and looked at me. "Oh shit, that's right." I nodded and agreed with her. "Listen, you take longer to get dressed. I have a sweater you can wear right behind the door. I have a drawer full of sweats. Second from the bottom." Gabby nodded and agreed with me as she went back into the room to get dressed. Meanwhile, I just continued to make breakfast while hoping that Severide didn't come home yet considering I was just wearing my boxers. That's when I decided to text him. 'Hey, we still doing xmas together?'

Hitting send, I kept my phone close to me so that I could see his answer right away when I heard the door open. "The answer is yes so, go put something on." I then went to grab my towel and wrapped it around me. "Sorry man and Merry Christmas." Stella laughed when I said that. "Where's Gabby?" I smiled at her. "She's in the bedroom getting dressed. I reminded her. I thought we had more time considering it's still early so I was going to get dressed after her. Or I can go do it now if you take over breakfast for me Severide." Severide nodded and smiled.

But before he started, he went to grab a drink. "I am staying here tonight with Stella just to let you know. Her hot water stopped because her landlord is being a dick again." I then nodded and agreed with her while going back to making breakfast. "Just to let you know, these first eggs and stuff are for Gabby, no cutting in line." Stella then looked at me. "Why exactly? I am just as hungry as her." I then laughed. "That is going to be impossible for the next 2 years Stella." Stella was confused when I said that. "Why exactly?"

That's when Gabby came out in something nice. "It's because I am pregnant. Oh and I am going to be breastfeeding. So, you can't be hungrier than me...that's impossible." Gabby then walked up to me and went to rub my back. "Go get changed okay? I put some of your clothes out on the bed." I then looked at her. "I am just wearing sweats, aren't I?" Gabby then looked at me and smiled. "I was thinking and...what do you say we go on a Christmas date? I know we had the charity thing but...we haven't had a real date in a long time, just the two of us."

I smiled and agreed with her before going to walk up to her. Bringing her close, I went to kiss her softly. "That sounds great. Supper or lunch?" Gabby then smiled. "Lunch. It'll be quieter, better for stress. And I am tired at night remember?" I nodded and agreed, kissing her again. "Of course. Severide, can you take over breakfast while I get dressed? How about you and Stella catch up?" Gabby nodded and smiled as she went to sit down. Meanwhile, I went to get dressed and Severide went to continue breakfast. "Great, I am stuck on breakfast."

Gabby's POV:
When Severide said that, I turned to look at him. "Your fire captain just asked you to do something. Want him to order you to do it?" Severide then looked at me and knew I wasn't kidding. He also knew that because I was pregnant, I had mood swings. So, that was going to be fun. "I got it Gabby. Just relax with Stella." Stella then looked at me. "How do you have better control over him than I do?" I then looked at her. "He knows that if he makes me stressed and it causes something to happen to this baby...Matt is going to be furious with him."

Stella then nodded when I said that. "Oh, I can just see that being true." I laughed when she said that. "Oh believe me, it'll be true. Now, catch me up on what's been happening in your life since I left." Stella smiled when I said that. "God, stuff has been great honestly...haven't been in better place relationship wise, I think my career is going upwards and stuff. I am thinking I might be able to make Lieutenant on Truck sometime." I smiled when she said that. "Well, just be ready for Matt to go hard on you. I know he's hard on Hermann." Stella nodded.

"Let's just hope that your pregnancy mellows him out. Honestly, while you've been gone...he's been such a pain sometimes. I think he was taking out his feelings of missing you on us." I then sighed when she said that. "I am sorry girl, I can't help but feel a bit responsible that." Stella nodded and sighed. "It's okay Gabby, you left for a great reason. How is stuff in Puerto Rico anyways?" I smiled when she asked. "Great. Honestly, I think it is going to be a great recovery." Stella smiled when I said that. "Do you miss it?"

I thought about it and sighed. "I haven't been gone long enough to miss it but...I am sure that eventually I will miss it. But, not enough to leave again. I missed Chicago a lot while I was there and now I am just glad that I am back for good. There is nowhere I would rather raise this little one here." I then went to rub my stomach and smiled when I heard Matt. "Just remember Gabby, if you ever change your mind...the option of us moving to Puerto Rico will always be open in the future." I then turned to look at him, a bit shocked. "It will be?" 

Matt nodded and smiled as he walked over to me and then went to lean over me. Giving me a quick kiss, he smiled at me. "I am not loosing you again. If that means I have to move to Puerto Rico...you bet I am. Especially now that we are pregnant." I smiled when he said that. "I love you. Now, go make me some breakfast." Matt nodded and agreed with me when I said that, walking over to the kitchen so that he could go help Severide make us some breakfast.
