Mirriella pov
We were just laid up on the hill in silence. My hand was resting on his stomach as my head rested on his chest, and his hand was wrapped around my waist playing with the ends of my hair. My head rose and fell with his chest as he breathed and if the wind hit, he'd pull me a little bit closer to keep me warm. I felt him tap my head a few times which caused me to hum in response, being too lazy to do anything else.
"Look at me." He demanded softly.
"No. You're ugly, it'll burn my eyes." I laughed as I heard him scoff at what I said.
"Just look at me." He repeated as I rolled my eyes.
"Gosh, so demanding." I mumbled playfully as I turned my head. "Yes, your highness?" I said sarcastically as he laughed slightly.
"You're the highness here princess." He corrected as he ran his fingers through my hair.
"Yeah, okay. Is there actually a reason you wanted me to look at you? Or were you just trying to be a general nuisance?" I asked as I rested my chin on his shoulder.
"Oh yeah. It was to do this." He answered as he gripped my chin and attached his lips to mine.
I smiled into the kiss and pushed my lips against his. We both slowly started to sit up as he moved me so my legs were either side of his thighs. I didn't know where he wanted to go with this, but if it was down the route if sex, he's in for a rude awakening.
His hands slipped under my shirt and rested on my waist, rubbing up and down every so often. My hands rested at the back of his neck as they played with the bits of hair at the bottom of his head. He swiped his tongue across my bottom lips, and this time I put up no fight in allowing him in.
His hands moved to hold the sides of my face as our tongues fought for dominance. He eventually pulled away and sighed in content as my nails raked across the bottom of his scalp.
"I love you." I stated softly as I rested my forehead against his, looking directly into his eyes.
"I love you." He repeated back as he held eye contact. He remembered.
I pressed my lips against his one more time before moving my hands to hug his torso and resting my head on his shoulder, lightly peppering his neck with short kisses. I heard him let out a steady breath as he also wrapped his arms around my waist. I heard him mumbled something along the lines of "fuck it"
"Mirri?" He asked, breaking the silence.
"Hmm?" I hummed back in response.
"Marry me?" You fucking what?
My head shot up to look at him. I saw in his face that there was no falter, telling me he want joking.
"W-what?" I stuttered, making sure I heard him right.
"Marry. Me." He said slowly in response.
"I-"
"Would there be a problem with you marrying me?" He asked softly. He wasn't getting annoyed, he was genuinely curious.
"Jaden I can't." I answered him.
"Can't or won't?" He raised.
"I- I can't." I repeated.
"Why?" I could see him bite down on the inside of his lip when I didn't say anything, trying contain his frustration with me. "You love me. Right?" He questioned, to which I nodded. "So then why can't you marry me? Is it because you don't want to marry me-" I cut him off before he could continue into his own little spiral of self doubt.
"No. No, no. It's not because of that. It's just that, I can't." This time he couldn't hold back the eye roll at my response.
"Mirri, stop fucking saying you can't, and give me a definitive reasons for it." He said through gritted teeth. He's still trying to hold back.
"A marriage ruins things, for everyone involved." I answered.
"No it doesn't." He denied.
"Jaden, I saw it first hand with my parents. They were completely and utterly in love with each other when they weren't married, but then when they were, things fell apart. They felt that the only thing that could keep them together was a child. So they had Daniel, and things were great for a while. And then things were going downhill, so why not add another to the mix? So they had me. But this time, their marriage was too far gone for a baby to be able to salvage it. For the thirteen years that I saw my parents married, they never said I love you once. They never cuddled, they never held hands. They slept in separate fucking rooms for fuck sake. I don't want to risk losing you because if something like that. I don't want any possible future children to have to go through the same thing. I don't want them to see us in the same way I saw my parents." I ranted.
"But Mirri, that's just one thing you've seen. You're resilient, and I know you won't ever let us get to that stage. Yes we're going to argue and fight, but if couples don't do that then they aren't made for each other. So long as at then end of the day, we're back with each other, everything is going to be fine. Let me prove to you that we won't be like that. Prove to yourself that you can be what your parents never were for you. Just say yes." He assured as he held my face.
"I don't know." I answered him honestly as my eyes started to sting.
"I understand that you're scared. But you're never gonna know if you don't try what happens. Worst case scenario is that I end sleeping on the floor for a good few nights because even the couch would be a luxury." He replied, making me laugh slightly as a few tears fell from my eyes.
"Okay." I nodded.
"So, will you marry me?" He asked again as a smile broke out onto my face.
"Yes. Yes I will marry you." I answered as he gripped my face and attached his lips to mine.
