Mirriella pov
"So Jaden, what is it that you do? Cause you're looking me up and down like I'm scum?" Benny asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I'm the ceo of my own company. Built it from the ground up. It's not you I think is scum. I've just never been on the east side." Jaden answered as he checked his watch.
"I thought I told you to take the fucking watch off." I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I didn't listen." He sassed back.
"Anyway, Benny, Jaden has lived up north all his life. That is why he's so displeased by here." I answered.
"You know, I'll let you off. But only because you make Mirri happy. But if you hurt her, I'll kill you with my own bare hands." He threatened.
I could tell it was hard for Jaden to bite his tongue there. No matter how much he wanted to laugh, knowing Benny wouldn't even be able to come close to killing Jaden, he had to keep his cool.
"Yes sir." He said through gritted teeth.
"You two get out of here. I'll watch the car for you. And I hope to see you around here more often." He said playfully as he pointed a finger at my face.
"I will try." I laughed as I hugged him one more time before grabbing Jaden's hand and walking out the other doors at the back.
"I don't like him." Jaden mumbled as the door slammed shut.
"I don't fucking care. Take the watch off." I hissed at him.
"Seriously Mirri?" He asked, not thinking I was that serious.
"Jaden, this isn't even about the fact we're in the east side anymore. I don't want my niece to see all of this. All the money, all the flash stuff. I don't want her to think that's all life is about. If her auntie Mirri is dating someone who shows that, her morals are going to change. Can you please just take the watch off?" I asked as I stopped us at the bus stop.
"Is that what you think of me?" He asked defensively as he took the watch off and put it in his inside pocket.
"No. I know that's not you. But all of this," I said as I pointed my hand to his body, "all of this suggests something different. I know you don't see it the same way, but down here, when we see someone dressed like you are, you already get an impression. And as much as I wish I could say it was, it's not a good one. That's what you need to understand." I explained.
"Is it really that bad down here?" He sighed as he came over and sat next to me.
"I wish I could say it wasn't. I really do. But that's the reality of it. How on one side of the highway you're surrounded by the richest of the rich, and on the other, you quite literally fear for your life when you walk down the street. It can be beautiful place. But you have to know how to live here." I answered as I rested my head against his shoulder.
"How did someone like you come from a place like this?" He asked as he leant his head on mine.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means, you're kind, you're nice. You know how to protect people, you know how to care for others. You're not always violent, you try to talk things out before you get to that stage. Unless it's Stefan. But yet, you come from here." He elaborated. "Not to mention you're beautiful, and really fucking sexy." He mumbled the last part as he squeezed my ass causing me to laugh slightly.
"Well, here was my first home. I don't know how I turned out the way I did, but it just happened." I shrugged. "Oh look, the bus is here." I sat up as I heard the wheels turning. "Have you ever been on a bus before?" I asked him as I pulled him to stand up.
"Nope." He answered.
"You haven't lived babe." I laughed as the doors opened. "Hi, can I get two tickets to the Chicago market please?" I smiled at the lady.
"You sure can." She smiled back.
She printed the tickets and I handed her the fare. There weren't many people on the bus. Just a few teenagers probably bunking, and an elderly couple. I walked to the middle of the bus and took a seat. Jaden sat next to me and I turned so I was leaning my back against the glass and my legs were resting across his.
"It was that easy?" He asked, looking shocked.
"That easy baby." I laughed at his confusion.
The rest of the bus ride into the town consisted of me explaining all the different things I used to do, and him being shocked. His hand was rested on my knee as he drew small circles on it. The bell had rang and we had made our stop.
"Come on you. We're in the market." I smiled as I hit his chest lightly to get him to move faster.
"Well it's eleven thirty. You said she gets out of school at two right?" He asked as he put the arch back in his pocket.
"No. It's Thursday so she finishes an hour early. So we have about an hour to shop around before we need to start making our way over to her bus stop. And then we walk her around the town, take her down to the pier and also to her favourite diner. And then I'll drop her back off just in time for her to catch the bus right the way back to my brothers house." I explained as he thanked the bus driver and got off.
"Wow, look at you. Got everything planned out don't you?" He asked as he wrapped an arm around me.
"Duh." I laughed as we made our way further into the market.
