Christopher's POV
The only time Court is this still is when she's asleep. She's like a beautiful portrait not go be tampered with.

I can't help but be pleased with last night. It was a stepping stone to her trusting me a little bit more. I don't want to coax or seduce Court into a sexual relationship. I feel it will be so much sweeter when she wants it like I do. I did as I promised. I gave her a single release... just one and it was enough to help her sleep. For me, it was a little harder because I didn't get off. It was all about her. I want her to trust that I can take care of her needs ahead of my own. It was an opportunity for sex but I passed it off as an assurance that it has to come from her. I was also not motivated by the idea of possibly fathering a child. I'm still on active duty in the army. I can't leave her pregnant. That would be unfair. Besides, it's not my way of doing things.

She's still and beautiful. I want to touch her. I want to pick up where we left off. This time I want to do more than feel. I want to see her body. I want to watch her writhing in deep pleasure. I noticed Marianna looking at me. I smiled at her. She looks gloomy.

"Good morning. How are... you?"

Possibly pregnant... Nate will not be around and I hope she knows that. She's completely on her own!

"Just like I was yesterday. Where is Nate?"

I got up to look around, even the bathroom. He was supposed to wake me so that we can go together. I guess he wanted me to stay and watch the girls. "Definitely not here. Maybe he got a jump start on getting food or the pill. I'll check outside."

"Chris."

"Yeah?"

"You two look good together. It's something you should pursue. She's hellish but when she loves she does so fiercely. She's the type."

"I bet she is. I'll try and get an idea of where Nate is. I'll be right back. By the way Maria, it wouldn't be a bad thing if you keep the kid." I winked at her. I think she should. Nate will learn some responsibility.

The storm made a mess of things. In Court's warmth, I barely realized how heavy the rain was. I was comfortable. If things go well, before I go back to the army, I'll take her to Lake Tahoe. My family owns a lake house there. She will like it, especially in winter. When we are absolutely alone, she lowers her defenses. I want to get through her high walls. I smiled to myself until I spotted three black SUVs. Last time we saw these cars, we got shot at.

I made an abrupt turn only to feel something sharp pierce through my side. I gripped the wrist of the man who went ahead and twisted the knife further. I recognize him. "Duncan." I felt my mouth fill up with blood. It oozed out as I clenched my jaw to fight the pain.

"You shouldn't have allowed me to see where you were going." He has an Italian accent. It was an act. We shouldn't have trusted them.

He drew the knife out and instinctively, I covered the wound with my palm. I could not keep the blood from flowing out. It's a lot of blood. I immediately thought of Court and Maria. They are inside the room and clueless about what is going to happen.

I almost flipped out when Court opened the door. "Run!" I shouted before the man hit the back of my head.

Courtney's POV
"Is it showing already?" I teased Maria as she showered and I brushed my teeth..

"It isn't funny Court!"

"I have a few names in mind for the wee bairn!"

She turned off the shower. "Indulge me."

"Christian."

"That is not creative. You just took Christopher's name and added a few words."

I realized it's true. I laughed. "I'll go look food! I'm not even sure where to start. Don't drown yourself in the shower! Love you dude!"
