The Major's POV
"Dear?""Yes dear!" She answered from the bathroom.
"Have you spoken to Chris?"
"No dear!" She popped her head through the open bathroom door. "Not since your award ceremony. Is something wrong?"
"No dear."
"Something is. I can see the frown on your face. What are you looking at?" She peeked at the sheet in my hand. "What is this?"
"A copy of Christopher's bank statement."
"And why would you have that? It's his trust fund, his money."
"It's my money. The trust fund is just in their names but it is my money. He withdrew every last penny."
"Maybe he had debts to pay!"
"Chris is not a gambler. Tommy is. Tommy, I understand. His trust fund is all gone. Chris had a good fifteen million in there. He took it all out yesterday."
"Have you asked him why?"
I stared at my beautiful wife. She knows I never ask the boys that question because I would rather not give them chances to lie. Tommy is a seamless liar. It's impossible to catch him. Chris is a bad liar. He doesn't even lie unless he thinks he has to. "I would rather carry out an investigation if my own."
"Ah! I see. Off to your old tactics!"
"I'm a creature of habit."
"What is going on in your mind Major?"
"That girl... Who is she?"
"I have been so busy I haven't looked into her."
"What if she's the reason Chris took out all that money?"
"Are you concerned we have an old fashioned social climber in the family?"
"Absolutely!" I want my son's to marry good, honest and hardworking women. That becomes a challenge when the boys have deep pockets. The kind they tend to attract are the ones who want their money, not them. Marriage is forever. It should be done right. I don't know this girl. Lucille is right. We have been busy but it's time to pay attention because I see red lights all over this bank transaction. "Or maybe he's being blackmailed."
Lucille had a good laugh but it slowly dwindled down and a serious expression showed on her pretty face. "Do you think so? Do you think she is blackmailing money out of Christopher?"
"We don't know her. We don't trust what we don't know."
"Are you looking into her?"
"First priority. I'm meeting Tommy. He told me he knows where to find her. I'll give you a full report by tomorrow Mrs Major General." I saluted her. "The Major loves you."
"Can the Major give me a kiss?"
"No." I blew her one instead. She caught it and pressed it to her heart.
I know my boys can take care of themselves but as long as I'm alive it's my duty to make sure no one takes advantage of them.
They don't know this but whoever marries and has a grandchild first, will inherit the St Patrick Group. It's a race and they don't know they are running.
Courtney's POV
I paid attention to how Chris signed the document. I watched how his hand moved as he crafted the glorious signature on the dotted line. It's a beautiful signature, borderline artistic. It also means I am a home owner and a millionaire! He looked at me with a crooked smile. "If I would have known ten million would make you this happy I would have given it to you a long time ago."
I picked up the document passing ownership of the beach house to me. I checked everything else he has signed. A small smile took root on my face. This is perfect. I almost can't believe it but my financial troubles are over. No more sleeping in the back of a van. No more room mates. I have a beach house in the Hamptons and it's all mine!
