Courtney's POV
I can hear my parents talking. It's been quiet between me and them. No conversations have been held. Dad is pissed and mom is disappointed especially about the way I made my exit. If I rewind back to the day I left for Sri Lanka, I realize that is how it started. I was upset about the move to America. I didn't want to part ways with Marianna. Then came the insane plan to run away. I got Chris involved in this madness. I got him to steal the Mafia bride. We should have given her back when Belucci first pursued us. I had to hold on to my best friend choosing to be Mafia fugitives across the world. With Francis it was easy. Life in the Hamptons was easy. When things are too easy it only means the worst is yet to come. Then it was Christopher's turn and the worst came. The worst happened. I can still see Chris on the floor soaked in his own blood. I can still see his blue eyes pleading me to be still. The way he tried to drag himself on the floor to reach me breaks my heart. He wasn't reaching out to Marianna, Chris was reaching out to me. It's me he wanted to save.
I didn't realize it when I started crying until I saw the tear drops fall on the letter I'm trying to write to him. This is the third one. I'm not expressive either in word or writing. I can't seem to put my thoughts in writing. I had so many chances to tell him I like him. It has taken a near death experience for me to want to say it.
Is he even alive?
I don't know how to reach him or anyone who can tell me what happened to him.
I can't even reach Marianna.
I dried my ears when I heard my parents walking towards my door. I hid the letters under a folder. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I have never looked this tragic in my life!
"Courtney." He began the sentencing. His wife faithfully stood beside him. I faced the judge and the jury for my execution. "We understand that you weren't party to moving to America. We have been moving you around too often."
"All my life daddy. You have been moving me around all my life."
"And we are sorry but it's our jobs." She defended him.
No wonder mom's stay home with their kids. Who wants a messed up daughter?
"But it doesn't excuse the trouble you got into. You broke into Don Giovanni's compound and you abducted his daughter. You obviously had help. Don Giovanni described him as a young man with blond hair and blue eyes. The same man who was in the motel room possibly dead."
"He's not dead!" I screamed at him.
"You fail to see the seriousness of this situation. You could have lost your life. Those men are dangerous." My father carried on.
I couldn't help but laugh. It's not a joyous laugh but an ironical one.
"You have negotiated peace treaties with terrorists and you are afraid of some Italians with guns?"
His expression was full of dismay. He looked at his diplomat wife. She approached me even kneeling beside me. "Courtney Love, I'm sorry but we can't do anything about Marianna's situation."
"It's not that you can't..." I choked on my tears that spilled generously. "You won't. You two have decided not to do anything! My best friend is sold to a violent man and you refuse to help!"
I covered my face. She squeezed my knee. "I'm sorry."
"That being said. We have to take disciplinary action against you. We are sending you to a boarding school in Switzerland." He gave the verdict. "This is Ally."
A woman in a black suit smiled at me. "Hello Courtney. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"She is going to go with you. She will always be by your side given you have a propensity for flight. She won't leave your side until you are through high school."
