Christopher's POV
At ten o'clock in the night Court woke up in a panic. The bed was soaked and she said the very words I have been dying to hear since I got back. 'The baby is coming.'It was a mad rush to the hospital. Her father and mother were with us at the house. I called my parents before we left and we all flocked to the hospital.
She refused to have anyone in the delivery room with her. We are all outside waiting quietly to get any news. It's already three in the morning and the doors she disappeared through haven't opened. I'm terrified that something could be wrong. I don't want to be asked if I want to save the mother or the baby. I want both of them to come out of there alive and healthy.
"It's going be alright." The Major patted my back.
I'm sitting between my parents. Court's parents are on the other side and they are not looking happy. Her father is still pissed about what Tommy did. He keeps giving me bad looks. Her mother is just quiet.
"How long will it take?" I asked my mom.
"It depends on what is happening in there."
"I should go and ask." I stood up.
"Probably not. Can I talk to you?" She managed to pull me away. We walked to the farthest end of the hallway. "You are avoiding this."
"What am I avoiding?"
"The fact that Aubrey is your daughter!"
"Seriously ma! Right now? Stop this!"
"I told you days ago and you haven't done anything about it! You're not picking my calls! You're trying to ignore this! It won't go away just because you don't want to deal with it!"
"Yes I am!" I screamed at her. I noted the curious faces looking our way. "Yes I am avoiding this." I spoke more quietly.
I haven't slept a wink since she spilled the secret. I can't sit still and not think of Aubrey in my arms. I held her that day at the park. It was the most blissful feeling. I don't want to accept this. I don't want to accept that I got Allegra pregnant and it may be the reason Court will end our marriage. She will be upset. I haven't even told her that Allegra is my ex. I almost did at the barbecue but her mother pulled her away. I haven't had the courage to do so since. I don't think she knows.
"Christopher, this can't be avoided for much longer."
"Let them continue with their lies!"
"Until when? How long do you think something like this stays under? That little girl is yours! Not Tommy's!"
"And what am I supposed to do? Take her in? Tell Court to make room for another woman's baby? Are you crazy? You have met my wife! How do you think she will react to this?"
"Obviously not well. But she will know."
"Not if you keep your mouth shut."
"Not if you can control Allegra! She is in love with you! What will happen when she tells Court out of a bout if jealousy that you're playing daddy to your son and not her daughter? Worse still, if Court finds out on her own?"
"She won't if you don't tell her!" I remained adamant.
"Christopher, you're married to an intelligent woman! If she can take a car apart and put it back together, she will figure it out once her mind is on the right path! Who do you think took the envelop?" I dragged my fingers through my hair. I faced away from her and cursed quietly. Court has it. Court knows that Tommy can't father a baby. If she finds out Allegra is my ex, she will put it together. "Get out in front of it."
