Courtney's POV
The mission was to protect the St Patrick Group from Tommy's greedy hands. Lucille's uncertainty is just that. Uncertainty. I don't deal with uncertainty when it comes to matters that hold so much importance! I forged Christopher's signature. He must know what I have done and the consequences it will spell if it is known that I forged it. Now more than ever there is no going back. I'm invested. The mission is to protect the St Patrick Group.I moved fast after Lucille left. I went to Christopher's loft and I turned the place upside down looking anything related to the St Patrick Group. I was looking for anything that can possibly give me an edge. I found something. I found a series of documents that have me a bad idea.
The last time I had a bad idea I stole away a Mafia bride and dragged other innocent people in the mess. This is not going to end well but I'm invested. I'm protecting Christopher's interests just in case shit hits the fan. He is not here. It will be at least an year before I see him again. What will I say when he comes back and finds Tommy sharing the office at the St Patrick Group? What is the Major's stand on this?
There's no time for opinions.
"Mr Harrington will be with you in a moment." Tge servant informed me.
I have turned to the only person who can help me and probably give me more bad ideas or talk me out of them depending on which side of the bed he woke up from.
I must admit I'm a little jealous of Freya. The portrait above the fireplace is proof is a depiction of the perfect family. The four of them best describe the typical high society family. The wealthy hardworking father, the beautiful charitable wife and the children, a boy and a girl, striking the perfect balance. He hasn't gone off to fight some war! He's here with his family as a husband should. Freya never went through being pregnant alone. An audible sad sigh escaped me without my approval.
I miss Chris and it's too much for me especially now that I'm close to giving birth and I'm trying to keep his post safe for him.
Frank's applause startled me. "A lot of baby gifts are in order my dear! Don't get up!" He smiled at me. He knelt in front of me with his hands a few inches shy of my belly. "May I?"
"Yes."
He smiled when his hands rested on the pregnancy. "This is just me, but I find pregnant women beautiful. The mere fact that you are carrying a life inside you endears me to you right now. How far along are you?"
"About six weeks left."
"Dear Court, are you ready?" He frowned at me.
"For what?"
"Everything. Chris isn't here. I imagine you must be terrified."
I placed my hands on his pressing them lower. The little one in me kicked. Lucille referred to the baby as 'he' and I'm starting to think so. He doesn't have any drama. He's cool. "Goodness me! Did you feel that?""He wants to play." He is kicking now and moving around. I can't wait to meet him but I'm also scared of doing this without Chris.
"He? Lovely!" He stood up. "How is Chris? I haven't heard from him since the wedding."
"At the moment I'm not sure. He hasn't communicated in a while."
"Well it's our hope that he comes back in time to meet his son. Have you had something to eat dear?"
"Sit down. Stop being a good host. Sit close to me."
"Is something the matter?"
"I want the St Patrick Group."
Frank raised his eyebrow at me. "Alright... That's quite a demand. I'm completely in the habit of giving gifts but I can't give you the St Patrick Group my dear."
