Courtney's POV
There are moments I strongly believe I'm a flight risk. When things get difficult and complicated, I bail out. I am terrified of waiting around for the innevitable which is either getting or hurt or me hurting someone. I know it pains my parents that I severed ties with them. I did the same thing to Chris after he almost lost his life because of my decision to meddle in Mafia business.I can't decide what to take with me.
I'm certain Liam is having me watched. I can't leave with suitcases. He will know I'm running. A small bag with essentials will suffice.
"How will I raise all the rent?" Carly expressed concern over being the only tenant now that I'm leaving.
I didn't palm to tell her. But I thought that would be unfair and rude. She's a nice girl. She doesn't deserve to be left high and dry.
"Get a new roommate."
"How am I going to do that?"
I slapped my forehead. She can be shallow sometimes.
"How did I find you again?"
"Oh! Silly me!" She remembered and laughed at herself. Yes, silly her. "But what about all your stuff?"
I looked around my bedroom. I own everything in this apartment. It's all material. I don't need it. "Keep it. If anyone comes around asking about me, tell them I went out and you're not sure where. Repeat it."
"Court is not here, she went out. I'm not sure where."
I picked up the small duffle bag. "See you around." I gave her a quick hug and left before she starts crying.
I'll spend the night at old man Jenkin's yard. One if the .any cars should make a little space to sleep in. Afterwards, I'll leave. I want to see Chris before then. I just want to see him one more time.
I went out through the bathroom window. There's a fire escape. I used the metal stairs to get down. Last night I was almost certain about going home. I thought of telling the Ambassador what I have done and beg for his help. Daddy can make it go away. But then i realized I'm not the type to allow daddy to make it go away. If I can't fix it and I'll have to suffer the consequences.
Freya mentioned that Chris is no longer in active duty. He has a desk job in an army base. I think I'll see Chris first before going to the junk yard. I don't know what I'll say to him considering he looked hurt when I said no to him.
I drove an old car given to me by old man Jenkins. The rust bucket is barely holding together. I was stopped by a man in uniform outside the gate. He approached with a serious expression on his face.
"Good afternoon ma'am. What can I do for you today?"
"I'm here to see St Patrick."
He scratched his head. "The Major General?"
Major General is a really high rank. I don't think he's talking about Chris. It must be his father.
"No. Chris."
"And who is Chris?"
"Chris St Patrick. He wears a uniform just like yours." I read his name tag. "Wilson."
"Do you have an appointment ma'am? What is the purpose of your visit?"
"I don't have an appointment and it's personal."
"I'm sorry ma'am but you have to turn the car around. Without an appointment, you can't get through." Ut's days like this I wish I would have called first. I saw another car stop behind me. "Ma'am, please move your car."
