Allegra's POV
When I saw Chris, when I saw him standing at the landing gazing down at us, I knew it then that I can't go through my arrangement with Tommy. It became clear that I still love Chris. I really wanted him to hold his daughter. He was willing. I wanted to see his expression. I don't want him to hold Courtney's baby first. It has to be Aubrey.I'm seeing him today.
I have arranged a meeting.
When I saw him walking our way I almost squealed with excitement. He looks good.
"Hey."
"Hey. How are you?"
"I'm alright. I got your message. What is it?"
"Won't you sit down?" I asked.
He stared at the empty spot bon the bench. Chris and I have never connected. That special connection that binds a man and a woman as soul mates is absent. It's missing and it's because he is not letting me through. The sex was hot and it caused the existence of our daughter but I want more. I want what he gives Courtney. I want his heart. Things have changed. We have a child together. I have equal rights to everything he gives Courtney.
"What is this about?"
"I just want to talk."
I want to tell him so much! I want to tell him Aubrey is his.
He took a seat on the bench. "What do you want to talk about?" He asked.
"Us."
"Allegra, there's no us." He gave me a hard look. "Let's be clear about that. I'm a married man. I have a wife. We are expecting a baby. We are a family and you are not part of that. I don't know what games you're playing with Tommy but don't drag me into it. Alright?"
I need a different approach.
"That's exactly what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to assure you that I am not going to cause trouble. I am with Tommy now and I respect your marriage to Courtney. She is a little indifferent towards me but-"
"Did you say something mean to her?"
If there's someone mean between us it's Courtney. I don't think she knows who I am. Her reaction towards me is aloof almost like I'm inconsequential! I am the mother of Christopher's firstborn. I'm not inconsequential.
"Why would I do that? You made your choice. You picked her. I respect your decision. I want you to know I'm not after you. I'm not out to ruin your marriage. I just want us to have an understanding so that we can avoid any awkwardness between us."
"That's mature of you. Thank you. I'll appreciate that."
"It just occured to me that you never got to hold your niece. Do you want to?" I reached into the team to get the little baby girl out. "Here you go Chris."
"I have never held a child. I don't know how."
"And you're expecting a new born soon? Practice is needed. Open your arms. I'll guide you." I helped him hold his daughter properly. The way his eyes lit up should be framed in a picture. A father and his daughter finally united. His deep chuckle is something worth hearing. "She's so little!"
"She's almost two months old." I sat next to him watching him fraying at the beauty in his hands. We made a pretty baby. "What do you think of her?"
"Man... She's perfect." Aubrey held his finger. "She's perfect. I want a little girl!"
He already has one! I want to tell him but I'm scared of Tommy. He pressed a tender kiss on her forehead. "Isn't Courtney having a girl?"
"A boy. At least we suspect so. Either way I'll be happy. Congratulations. You and Tommy made a pretty one. What is her name?"
