Flickers

Chapter 59

Time has become a sluggish blur as her eyes darted into the calendar that is now marching on to the end of their high school days. She thought how slow time was in her freshman year and now that she faced the ultimate goal of every fourth-year student, it dawns on her.

Time is slowly catching up, it is now up to us how we should live our best lives, the youth that everybody wanted to attain and yet dismiss when they have it before.

Eric: Good morning, love

It was the early greetings, the flashing of messages that made her awake and comes back to reality.

Ange: Good morning to you too, love

April has reached the peak of summer in the Philippines, with just a little movement sweat came pouring out of their skin, rushed mornings, marathons to reach the tricycle, and arriving at their destinations their routine.

"It's so hot! Do you have a fan?" Meryl asked and she shakes her head, she only has her ID which she treated as a fan.

"My feet are killing me"

"Are we gonna sing it again? I'm sick of it"

"I'm so hungry and thirsty, do you have some water?"

Those are just the things I've heard as we went on with our usual practice for our graduation in March or we should day moving up.

The bronze sun seems like it was spitting out a fire as it burns our skin making it almost glow into the hues of orange. Even our breathe felt scorching and our throats parched as if we've been travelers to a desert.

Thankfully we've returned to our seats and sighed in relief after sitting, our legs wobbling for a long time and with the heat, everyone was just stressed.

The bell rings signaling break time and we were off on our feet, it didn't take a long time before the canteens were filled with hungered and thirsty students. In just a second the refreshing drink I wanted to buy was gone.

I sat with my friends with a downcast face till a cold thing touched my cheek and made me almost jump off of my seat.

"What the-"

"Here" Eric handed me the refreshing drink that I wanted and smiled at him.

"Thank you"

I took a sip of it and have my eyes curved in joy while my friends watched me with envious looks. He also handed me a fan whom he borrowed from one of his cousins and even took the initiation to fan me.

"Wow, would you look at that?" Faith snorted as she watched us with envy looking at the fan who is being used by Eric.

"Can I borrow it, Eric?" Meryl tried but Eric didn't permit her and I just giggled at her grievous face. She then turns her attention to her seemingly ignorant boyfriend he was pinched as she saw him eating on his own.

I was drinking a refreshing drink coupled with someone fanning me, it was the best moment of my life today.

"You have some too" I pet him drink mine, it was his reward for being attentive.

"No you drink it" he refused politely, continuing to fan me.

"No, you drink some" I insisted, and when he was about to refuse again when Faith erupted.

"If you don't want then I do!" Eric immediately took the drink away from my hand and clutched it on his chest.

Soon, our practice finished and we were numbered to our rooms, we were just basically eating away time since fourth grading is finished and our final exams have ended. Grades are being computed and now all we have to do is to attend practice.

Everything is well but I know the months that would follow will end our high school days and thrust us into new territory, one that even the country has just started to implement.
