"I miss him, terribly"
That was the first sentence I heard from him after we continued our walk, it took him a long time before he could open up his heart and I understand.
My eyes flickered to his peaceful expression but the deeper you stare you will see the storm surging in his eyes. My hand grips his tightly as his eyes suddenly met mine, I can only give him a supporting nod.
It is up to him whether he wanted to continue his story or not, I will not force him to rip open the band-aid on his wound and let it bleed open.
"I'm not reconciled"
I know, I am too, I was not reconciled at the fact that my father lost his life. I knew from the moment I became of mind and shed off the naivety of my childhood that death is just a part of life. It is a cycle that will continue till the end of the world. An irreversible fact.
There were fewer and fewer people as we walk but the sound of motorcycles in the air, as well as the joyful shouts of the children, reverberates into this cold, lonely street.
"I'm sad, I wanted to cry and hate him for leaving me. Hate the hospital for not doing their best to save my father. Hated his sickness. Hated me that I didn't prevent it. But ange... what I hate the most is that I've never told him how much I love and respected him"
At the end of his sentence, his voice breaks and he has fallen on his calm facade. That night I held him under the starry sky, the moon our witness as he cried like a child, begging for his father to come back.
That night I knew the heartache that I've felt in the past weeks is nothing compared to this time.
...
Days turned into weeks and the next thing we knew, we were already in our final practice for our final exam for our PE subject.
Everywhere you look you'll see dried grass, students in each corner practicing as well as felt the sun scorching our skins till it resembles that of a dried fish.
"Piol! More energy! Carl, make sure to twirl Berna properly and you two- follow the beat!" It was Janmill who was screaming at the top of our lungs, she was the class's leader for our dance break.
We're recreating the ending dance scene of the High school musical: 1 and the rest of us were just foils including me.
"Those who didn't come will not become a part of this activity!" She threatened us and that made almost all of us behaved.
Another car honks towards us and we all make way for it, this was the seventh time, and since we were practicing on the road connected to their village we were wasting some time just doing that. The place we are practicing to is a wide expanse of land, it's also where the game of softball is being held and it has now reached the capacity since every grade 11 student is now practicing in this space.
"I heard them wanting to talk to their community leader saying that we're blocking their road," Kaye said worriedly and it made us well aware of the anger of the drivers when another came and stared at us with malice.
"We made way for them, what are they talking about blocking the road? Besides is it their road, is their name tattoed on it? It's a public road for god sake!" Janmill was exasperated at that time and it didn't go well that we were losing more time as well as the number of people that were needed in their homes.
"Okay, let's just practice tomorrow, someone might call the school and we'll be punished if that happens" Michelle calmly states, and we all were relieved that this is the last practice and we will go home soon.
My body's heat can fry an egg with this heat I've accumulated, I drank the water bottle from Emil's bag and heard the whining of Jeline before giving it to her. We would always share Emil's water bottle after all it's for everyone.
"Let's go to Dodolon first to cool ourselves, it's so hot today!" Emil started which the majority agreed to but not Espe since she wanted to be in her home and sleep.
Soon after we cooled down into the AC that the mall provides before parting ways.
