17. New Year Resolutions

With the Christmas gone, everyone was looking forward to the New Year's Eve, as they all decided to have a meet at Haru's house. Gou messaged her brother that he is invited too.

Rin read the message then put his phone down with a sigh.

"Is there something wrong. Matsuoka-senpai? You sister again?" Asked Ai as he spotted Rin on his bunk, slouched against the wall.

"No...The Iwatobi team wants to meet for the New Year... But..." He mumbled, not continuing his idea, letting out another sigh as he looked away.

"I thought you like spending time with your old team."

"I do. That's not the problem..."

"Is it Nayna-san?" Asked the silver haired boy curious.

At the mention of her name, Rin's eyes turned wide towards his roommate.

"What?"

"Well... I was just thinking, since it's not your sister and not the guys, Nayna-san was the only one left. Is there something wrong with her?"

"Mh...I heard it's her birthday one of those days but I have no idea when..."

"If that is the problem, senpai, leave it to me. I can find out any information you need." Said Nitori all fired up getting a strange look from Rin.

The evening of the new year's eve, they all gathered to Haru's house. Haru, Makoto, Gou and Nayna were in the kitchen taking care of the food while the rest of the boys were in the living room, chatting. From time to time, Rin would look over at the kitchen at the four, three of them bickering over the food while Nayna was quietly doing her part ignoring them. His gaze lingered over her form deep in thought.

"Rin-senpai, is everything alright?" Asked Ai from beside him.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, yeah..." He mumbled looking from Ai to the kitchen again.

As the food was ready, they all got back around the table talking as they ate.

"Ma! Nayna-chan! Your food is always the best!" Cheered Nagisa with his mouth full.

"Nagisa-kun, don't speak while you have food in your mouth!" Scolded Rei.

"But he sure is right. You're food is always the best." Said Rin with a sly grin looking at the white haired girl who looked at them a bit surprised then smirked at Rin.

"I guess it was worth it making sure I got home safe then, huh?" She teased.

"Sure did." Winked Rin taking another bite.

After they ate, they continued to have fun, talking and laughing together until midnight when they went outside for the fireworks.

As everyone was looking up at the colorful night sky, Rin made his way to the white haired girl, who, feeling him approaching, looked over at him only for him to hand her a little red box with a maroon bow.

Nayna looked at his hand then at him a bit surprised.

"Happy birthday." He said quietly.

"Wha- How did you- I never said when is my birthday..." She said stumbling over her words.

"Let's say I had a good informer." He smiled. "Funny coincidence for our birthdays. You're on 1.1 and I'm 2.2." He laughed.

Hearing that Nayna's eyes grew wide a bit before she chuckled too.

"Sure is, Red. Thank you." She said softly.

Without them noticing, Makoto turned and saw them. He looked at them confused and surprised before smiling knowingly.
